Coincidence? BS Athletics

I was casually watching college lacrosse. Even though I religiously watch lacrosse, and I really didn't like the announcer because he gave so much info on the basics that I ended up muting the game after the 2nd period. I listened to the 2nd half commentary and they did player profiles... (This was for Maryland and Virginia by the way. )

I was so incredibly shocked that this one school kept coming up on both sides... Georgetown Prep. May be coincidence, but then I was watching an old Notre Dame game from this year... One attackmend was from Hotchkiss and a defender was from Hotchkiss also.

I was impressed that so many kids on Virginia and Maryland both attended Georgetown Prep. Notra Dame fielded two HK players, and 1 Lawrenceville guy. Dartmouth had a few prep schools kids also(can't accurately remember which schools).
I haven't really paid attention to what high schools most players attend. I'll start listening to that though.

I was wondering if schools usually send athletes to certain colleges? Do certain colleges favor certain boarding schools? Do certain schools always get a scout from a certain college?

I wouldn’t say college favor certain boarding schools. At the end of the day you take the best players…If a school has a rep for having good athletes for a certain sport I imagine the college will send their scouts annually.

By favor I meant something along the lines of Duke sending a scout every year to Deerfield even if they are having an average year. The reason that Duke would do this: Deerfield’s coaching staff consistently produces players that Duke considers to be recruitable. Deerfield’s coach might have played at Duke and he uses those ties to benefit his players… I just made that up as an example. I have no idea if Duke and Deerfield have any relationship beyond being academic institutions.

Relationships often exist between BS and colleges, either the coach or his assistants attended a certain school/area, the colleges know the BS reputation in certain sports, and often there are many connections established between coaches in high school/BS/college…if a coach has sent one talented player to a certain college, that coach will give a close look at another player from that school upon recommendation from the coach. Yes, colleges want top players but they also want academically successful kids with good character…

Yea, the connection is usually between the coaches. If a coach has enough connections to a certain college…even on a down year he can sell at least one of his players to the college.

Look up the college rosters for some lax teams. Most schools have profiles that will detail where the athlete played before college. Many of the top schools do not necessarily list high school sport affiliation, just club. But you can at least see where they attended hs.

Yeah I thought that it was extremely interesting that both of Harvard’s top athletes of the year were at Hotchkiss together.

Proximity is definitely part of the mix. When you consider how many kids who live in VA and MD go to Georgetown Prep, it only makes sense that these kids would matriculate to schools in VA and MD. I guess it would naturally follow that the schools might have a relationship, but even without one I would still think that more kids would apply to schools in their home state.
