So, who ended up on the waitlist this year? It's one of two schools I was waitlisted at. I've been talking to admissions and I'm taking some steps, so we'll see. Let me know when they start taking kids from the waitlist!

I really want to visit but I probably won’t make it out.

I’m stuck on the waitlist and have sent in more stuff too, I can’t believe we might have to wait another month for this to end.

I know. It’s pretty brutal. I thought the waiting was over.

Don’t want to get your hopes up too much for a quick resolution but my S was accepted from the waitlist a few years ago as was another kid from his HS class. For both acceptance came right after the May 1 deadline. Seemed like a lot of activity right around that time and then it was more or less done. Not to say things couldn’t go differently or stretch out longer this year. Good luck!

Thanks! I’m trying not to be too optimistic, since I know it’s a slim chance, but I’m staying on top of the whole process. I’ve heard that having your guidance counselor call once the college starts accepting kids off the waitlist is a good idea.

Definitely agree about having the guidance counselor call–even now. It’s not too soon. I really think that’s what made the difference for my son.

Thanks sailfish, I’m just so cautious when it comes to contacting Admissions people for fear of annoying them :P

good luck ice & dinochar!

also, stellar names.

Thanks! But you would suggest even having my guidance counselor call now? Instead of or in addition to after May 1st?

I think GC could call now. By now colleges have a very good idea how acceptances are coming in, whether they’ll go to the wait list and if so, how deeply they are likely to go into it. If they know they’re going to the wait list they’re looking it over and making some preliminary decisions. Good time to have GC call, reaffirm your interest and get a sense of what’s going on. I agree that you don’t want to be a pest personally and a parent should NEVER call, but I don’t think a call from a guidance counselor is seen as annoying, especially if it’s the first call. S, who was admitted to Colby from waitlist, was contacted preliminarily by admissions (through his GC) a few days before the May 1 deadline. GC had previously called the college on his behalf. Offer came about May 4 or 5, I think.

My D is also on waitlist. Folks in admissions have been very friendly when she has called to follow-up on submission of supplemental materials and additional recommendations. The bottom line is that you have to demonstrate to the college that Colby is the place you want to be. Do not hesitate to put into action all of your follow-up options. I believe WL discussions on other college forum pages bear this out.

Anyone hear? Has Colby gone to the waitlist yet?

Does anyone know how long you have to respond if you make it off the waitlist? I’m planning a visit for may 23 and if I make it off the list will I have to respond before I visit?

A few years ago they were giving people 24 hours to respond–I would imagine that’s still the case. Offers were made by telephone.

24 hours? That’s crazy. I don’t know how I would decide that quickly.

Any news from Colby?

Nothing here, it’s kind of frustrating. I’ve emailed my regional rep 3 times sending additional information, updated resume, etc. Still have never gotten a response. Probably should call.

I phoned them. Said won’t take many from the wait list. She said they will start informing next week or so.

I feel like I should call again but I don’t even know what I would say.
