Accepted!
(also accepted to Middlebury this morning and waitlisted at Bowdoin last night)

Do any of you guys have “TEC:pas” under the sign under your decision letter? I think that’s an enclosure for presidential scholars, but I’m not sure.

No, it just means that the initials of the person that prepared the letter for Terry Cowdrey are PAS.

Okay, thanks. I’ve never bothered to figure out how those letters beneath worked. (I should probably figure it out now)

Waitlisted and not accepting, got into colleges I liked more anyways

*General comments/advice/hindsight: Good luck to everyone with waitlist/colleges that haven’t gotten back to you yet! *

Rejected

30 ACT, 3.96 GPA, national competition winner, great EC’s, handsome dude

Hindsight: Maybe I should’ve attended the interview that I scheduled

Waitlisted

33 ACT 34 superscore
3.82 cumulative GPA 9 AP courses

Average EC’s with no real leadership
Decent amount of volunteering
I thought I wrote a great essay, about my visit during experience colby.

Not sure why I wasn’t accepted because they paid for me to fly there in a “diversity visit” (I’m a white male from WI) and they told me people at this visit are usually accepted. I am really sad because I really liked Colby and would have gone, but now I have to go to a safety state college which I am not enthused at all about.

My son has been accepted. Was waitlisted by lower ranked Dickinson. Go figure. Sat was 2170

My daughter had a similar situation–accepted at Colby and Colgate and Macalester, but rejected at lower ranked Connecticut College. Go figure.

GDMACK–how do you know she’s reject at Conn? Their decisions don’t come out until tomorrow, right?

To all those wait listed - don’t give up! Make an effort to show admissions they should take you - call, e-mail, get more recommendations, send them something they haven’t seen from you, request another interview - you can do it!!!

Accepted RD, got Presidential Scholars and Bunche Scholars invitations

Objective
[ul]
[] SAT I (CR, M, W):
[]ACT (breakdown): 34
[]Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): who knows. I’m too lazy to calculate
[]Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1
[]AP (place score in parentheses): 33444555
[]Senior Year Course Load: 3 APs, and band and physics. I’ve depleted the AP classes at school
[li]Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National level NHD stuff, some state-level awards[/li][/ul]

Subjective
[ul]
[]Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): debate (captain), band (section leader, 1st chair), lit anthology (editor in chief)
[]Job/Work Experience: nope
[]Volunteer/Community Service: nope
[]Summer Activities: nope
[]Essays: I thought my Colby essay was tacky and gross. My least favorite of all the supplements I’ve written for any college. I think it was my second-to-last supplement and I was like UGH JUST BE DONE I HATE COLLEGES. It was specific though, with a bunch of citations to Colby, including a professor’s research and their diversity center.
[]Teacher Recommendations: idk man
[]Counselor Rec: who knows
[]Additional Rec: nope
[li]Interview: ahaha fun story. So I was supposed to have an interview and I thought it would be 2 hours later so I sat in a class and listened. My interview time passed, and they called me (but AT&T sucks at Colby), but I didn’t know until I went to the admissions office when I thought it was supposed to happen. So instead of a student interviewer I had one of the real admissions officials and she seemed to like me. [/li][/ul]

Other
[ul]
[]State (if domestic applicant): HI
[]School Type: mediocre public
[]Ethnicity: White Asian
[]Income Bracket: ~150k. Financial Aid sucks for people in this income bracket, I’ve learned. I got my admissions package today and got nothing in need-based aid. It may have been because I sent in my financial documents a little late
[li]Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): from HI. (They only had one person from HI and he’s graduating this year. Another kid from HI applied ED and got in, but I’m sure they figured that it’d be beneficial to have more than 1 HI kid.) Also they figure I’m full pay (although we really can’t afford it)[/li][/ul]

Reflection
[ul]
[]Strengths: ACT, GPA, location
[]Weaknesses: um I thought my supp was bad. and that interview thing. and I’m not incredibly charismatic. Like some kids were super “I LOVE COLBY OMG” at the diversity fly-in and then there were a few of us that went to other fly-ins and were like “well X is better here but Z college has nicer Y” and I had also just barely applied to Yale (literally the night before leaving) and was still kind of into the idea that I could get into Yale.
[li]Why you think you received your decision: because I’m from HI. And high stats don’t hurt. [/li][/ul]

General comments/advice/hindsight:

I’m almost inclined to say that I got admitted because Colby knew they wouldn’t have to give me any financial aid (not that I can afford it without significant aid, but they don’t really think like that). It’s kind of off, in that way, because they’re asking for like half of our post-tax income. They really stressed applying ED if you wanted to get out of their budget restrictions. I’ll say it: Colby’s not my favorite, and I will not be accepting their offer of admission unless they come up with some aid. Hopefully this’ll allow some of you WL to get into Colby. It’s a great place, but given these conditions, I will not be able to go. Incredibly thankful to get Presidential and Bunche Scholars. I’ll definitely recommend the junior that I’m going to help with the college process to apply here because I really do like Colby (also the guys there are quite good looking). I’m pretty sad, though, I really wanted Colby to be an option.

international student - waitlisted. Congrats to all those who got admitted!
