Colby admissions numbers up

From the Colby website. The grant decision came in time this year for Maine students, which is probably why the applications were so much higher this year. It will be interesting to see what happens next year, since Colby is now giving grants (no more loans) to all its financial aid students.

Admissions Applications Up
Colby admissions is having a record-breaking year, with 4,835 applications for the Class of 2012. That number breaks last year's record total of applications. Applications from Maine (11 percent of the pool) increased 49 percent, and students in the pool represent 124 countries. In two rounds of Early Decision, there were 212 students accepted from among 454 ED applicants. For a look "Behind the Decision," see Associate Admissions Director Dory Streett's popular blog.

how many seats do they have to fill?

They take 450+ into the freshman class
I believe last year they took 467

I hope they would increase the number of intakes this year.

I doubt the will increase the number. I just read in the Colby Echo, the school paper, that the dorms are horribly overcrowded with some students residing in student lounges etc. They stated in the article that they did not plan on increasing the # of students they would enroll, but would not likely decrease it either
