Thank you for this post. D was admitted with FA letter stating “you do not qualify for financial aid…” but here are some ways you can borrow the money. We are in the 4th year of paying for a Claremont school and are pretty aware of what our EFC is. It is at least $19K below Colby sticker price. I can only hope that they will offer some kind of scholarship instead. We will be 60 when D graduates, so no way can we afford to borrow an additional $80K above what we were scraping together. The only other non merit school offer so far was Carleton —they came in exactly where we were thinking they would. Wondering if you had a similar experience…

@Onlineschoolworkstoo, my daughter’s initial FA award was less than anticipated based on the net price calculator results we had for Colby. She reached out to her AO about this and he put her in touch with someone in the FA office. They agreed to take a “second look” and it came back closer to what we were expecting. I would recommend starting with the AO so they can hopefully help facilitate a contact. I hope it works out for your family!

Congratulations all you new Mules!

I’m curious about what portion of applicants who receive the presidential scholar email ultimately get admitted into the program. From what it looks like, every recipient of the email who gets admitted later gets into the program. Fingers crossed!

Other than the notification in the portal, did anyone receive an email of acceptance?

nope

Does anybody know if Colby accepts appeals for financial aid? Intl student and their parental contribution is more than half of my family income. Any advice?

I actually did not receive a single email from Colby, notifying me that a decision has been released or that I was accepted or anything. Seems strange. I would imagine that most applicants don’t follow Colby’s instagram, so how would they know that their decisions have been released (besides CC/reddit or obsessively checking their portals)??

Thanks. My thoughts exactly. My son had a moment where he thought there has been a mistake.

It is because we logged into the portal early lol… other people who didn’t got the email

Ohhhh. Makes sense.

Also, to everyone who got the presidential scholar email and didn’t get an acceptance (@poopgangnamstyle @nihat123 and anyone else), and for future applicants, it might help to get some insight in the process.

Based on what I know about the emails, they are sent after your regional admissions officer(s) evaluate(s) you individually, but before the admissions committee meets up. This means that if you get the email, your regional admissions officer REALLY likes your application, and therefore you have a good chance of admission, since you will have a strong advocate on your behalf in the committee. However, this of course is not a done deal, as there are obviously other members in the committee and SO many qualified applicants to choose from. So know that if you got the email you were totally qualified to attend, it was just the sheer # of apps.

Son got in with very generous financial aid, so we are feeling fortunate. More college results will be coming in through the beginning of April, so there will be hard decisions to make in the upcoming weeks. Or not, depending on how the rest of it goes.
