Colby College vs. Colgate University...Really need help...!

I am now making my final decision between these two LACs and really can't decide which one to enroll.

I am an applicant from China. The major that I am going to choose is Chemistry for sure. (it is what I decide now) There is also a very high probability that I will double major a subject like social science/art history/economics/politics.

Despite the fact that Colby has a better Chemistry department, these two schools seem only differ in school styles; To me, Colby is like a typical LAC: the school is small and people there, no matter professors or students, tend to get along well. It leaves me with a feeling mixed of quietness and concord, which appeals to me. While Colgate definitely give me a vivid and more vibrant impression because of its athletics and bigger size. These are the two points I like the most about Colgate as well. So does the stronger alumni network (is that still true for an international student who is not going to investment banks?) and the more challenging academics. The professors are also excellent in others' words.

Both of the two schools are cold so climate is never a problem... Both locations are okay to me as well.

What I care the most are these two points:

Which of the two LACs' undergraduate graduates get jobs more easily? (not in investment banks)

I know that Colby has invited many famous people and arranged a lot of shows. Does Colgate also have this convention? Is the theater/movie house good in Hamilton, the village near Colgate?

Thanks a lot for any help!

P.S. I got no FA from both of the two schools. The comprehensive fees are almost the same.

Bump bump bump

The schools are similar, I prefer Colgates size/school spirit.

Personally I’d choose Colgate.

Another Colgate

Colby College all the way! It’s more community oriented, many many businessmen come from colby. The ceo of barclays bank is a colby grad. The founders of keurig cup were from colby. Also colby has a unique jan plan which is an internship in the month of january that you can take. They offer internships with jp morgan, goldman sachs, and morgan stanley!

Thanks for posts above~

I was interested in your comment that the chemistry department is stronger at Colby. Please explain how you determined that.

Also, please ensure that you have read the posts of the past couple of weeks on the Colgate board. In them you will learn about the town and the extracurriculars available on campus and
in Hamilton. (It’s a few minutes walk from the Hill and in some respects is integrated with the university). Of course the colgate.edu website will give you lots more information. I find its link to brochures about student life, faculty engagement and career planning/outcomes compelling.

Personally, I think Colgate’s relative size has much to commend.

Good luck!
