Colby Live 2009

Does anyone know if this e-mail is a good sign that you're into Colby? I got my invite today and I am totally going! This is gonna rock! :)

I just counted and about 69 applicants got the e-mail! I feel so happy to be one of them!

I also just got that email! Hopefully it's akin to getting a "likely letter." Btw it said to rturn the forms as soon as possible but in the attachment there were no forms to fill out....did I miss something?

I didn't get any forms either, but I'll e-mail them later tonight to confirm that I will be going.

Can any of you tell me what the Colby Live 2009 was and the dates?
Son applied but did not receive this. Wondering if this is a sign of rejection?

Any info appreciated
Thanks!

Colby Live 2009 is a flyout for students who the college feels will be a good fit for the school *but has not been able to visit the campus. *

It's important to note that the Associate Director of Multicultural Enrollment sent the letter. Perhaps this is a chance for first-generation or minority students (they use the phrase "diverse student body" in the e-mail) to see the college.

The event will last from Feb. 28th-March 2nd.

I don't think people should take this as a sign that Colby is rejecting you if the applicant is not a minority or first-generation.

My son did not get invited to one last year, is biracial and is now a happy Frosh in Colby.

eastcoastm - Lack of invite is definitely NOT a sign of rejection.

Yea I think the letter was sent to strong applicants who have not visited the campus. Even if you are academically talented, you probably didn't get one if you have visited Colby already. I'm not too sure if this event only targets minorities, but I am Asian.

I will be there. I'm so excited!

Hey I'm going too!! I was SO excited to get the email; my stats arent even that great? CR-660 M-690 W-590 ACT-30 GPA is like a 3.42? I did write a really good essay though.

But I mean c'mon, why else would they invite us at their expense? I think we're accepted if you ask me. And yeah, I'm Asian and on my CommonApp for honors awarded I mentioned that I was a QuestBridge finalist? And that goes hand-in-hand, its all low-income/minority stuff.

HopeImAccepted: My stats are way worse then yours. And while my common app essay was good, my Colby supplemental essay was pretty bad. I was soo surprised that i was invited because like five other people for my tiny highschool applied(all of them are strong candidates).

I got invited too! Does it have something to do with me being Asian? haha. My GPA and class rank are good, but SAT score not so much. Is EVERYTHING paid for by Colby, including airfare and hotel for parents?

It only pays for one person, your parents will probably have to pay for their own flight and everything. And for the student, I did notice that it said pack light because the airport has baggage fees? or something idk. I've only flown like 3 times and the last one was in 8th grade, so I'm not that experienced in flying procedures.

I need a winter coat :(. Anyone have suggestions?

Oh, I think Colby pays for one parent.
AvantTao, I suggest you buy a Northface winter jacket. They keep me warm when I'm in Vermont.

Thanks, xx. I live in Cali and have never seen snow so I have no idea what to get and what all this snow equipment. What is the difference between a soft shell and down jacket? Which is better suited for Waterville at this time?

Argh... good thing there's the internet.

Check the weather before you head out.

My S has a down jacket but never wears it - he wears a Colby sweatshirt or heavy fleece with a soft shell jacket. Layering is key. Hat and gloves are a must but not if the weather is in the 40s. But you're from CA, so you might need heavier clothing. I know S' friends from CA and FL are constantly complaining about the cold, while S, from New England, doesn't even notice it. And there's a North Face Outlet in Freeport, ME, about an hour south of Colby, and about 20 minutes from Portland Airport (and heading in the right direction to Colby).

Try all the cafeterias - Foss, Dana and Bob's - Colby is known for excellent food. They're trayless, too. Foss is still my favorite.

Hope you all enjoy Colby.

I'm so EXCITED! Can't wait to meet you guys!

Yeah, this is going to be a lot of fun. Did anyone get contacted by the travel agency yet(for those of us flying)?

I'm from Long Island, and I don't even really have a winter jacket. I mean its only two days, do you think I'd be alright just layering my jacket and a sweatshirt? Thats what I've been doing this winter.

LOL, this is so funny that you are all instantly discussing winter coats after finding about about this. That's Maine weather for you, I guess!

xD

The travel agency has already contacted me/confirmed my flight
