According to a few sources, the night life/ party scene at Colby is incredibly weak. Is this true?

I’ve heard a lot of descriptions of Colby night life/social life but weak has never been one of them. As far as I can tell everyone has a fabulous time there. My S was hardly a major partier in high school but had a great time for four years at Colby. Never got tired of the place–it only grew on him.

Hi Everyone,

I’m a current student at Colby and just wanted to jump in if you have any questions. As far as social and night life goes, there’s a lot going on here, despite the fact that we’re not in a city. Colby does a fantastic job of bringing people to campus (Spike Lee was here last month) and creating more opportunities for kids to hang out in Waterville (free movies at the local theater). We’ve had big concerts – J.Cole is actually performing tonight and last year we had Wiz Khalifa – and there are at least two or three dances/student concerts per semester. There are also lots of things to do during the day; sporting events draw a big crowd and SPB (our student programming board) brings things like bounce houses and free gelato from Brunswick on Friday afternoons. Also, there’s the typical lecture, student event, etc.

As far as night life, it’s what you make of it…there’s fun all over the place, it just depends on which kind you want to have. There’s always options for a quiet night at home or a great time out with friends. I’m a sophomore and I’ve never had a Sunday night where I’m telling people that my weekend was terrible.

If you guys want to take a look at daily life, you should check out insidecolby. All the photos are from students, so it’s an authentic look at what happens here:

My daughter is a Colby Freshman. Yesterday I sent her a text asking her what she was doing this weekend. Her response was, “I am going to a wine and cheese party, then there’s a dance later tonight. Saturday is a Colby Cares Day, so I am doing trail work with the outing club, then there’s a big hip hop concert tomorrow. I just got back from riding my bike with a friend to the diairy cone where I ate soft serve with cookie dough and Reeses at the picnic table… Oh yes, and I went on a 20 mile bike ride earlier with the cycling club people.” I don’t think having a lack of things to do in their spare time is a problem.

My daughter is also a first-year at Colby. She chose to attend a college in an area that does not have a big night life scene. Clubbing doesn’t really interest her which isn’t to say that good parties/dances/concerts don’t. She is loving Colby! I think she would very much concur with what julianna has to say.
