Accepted to both and trying to make a decision!! Anything will help....

there are a couple of older threads on this, I think! I’m a Kenyon alum and parent of a Colby Junior–sorry to say, but both are GREAT! And you’re right, they are very similar. Colby I think is a little preppier, Kenyon a tiny shade “crunchier”. Both are absolutely beautiful and have great academics and very friendly kids. Kenyon is more isolated–Gambier is a beautiful little town, but you’re an hour from Columbus and even farther from Cleveland, and Mt. Vernon, the close town, is not terribly great. It’s better now, but I think its nickname is still “Mt. Vermin”. Waterville Maine is no garden spot either, but there’s a little more to it than Vermin. And you’re only an hour from the water, and Portland, and about two-ish hours from Boston. But you can’t go wrong with either! Just take a look at academics, maybe talk to some profs in your areas of interest, chat with Admissions, and go with your gut!

I wouldn’t define Colby as preppy so much, since that’s not the only kind of person here (and that may not have been what you were saying, but this merits highlighting). Colby students tend to be very active. They are athletic and outdoorsy and passionate about everything they do. Students are hardworking in the classroom and very involved outside of it in numerous extracurricular activities. All of this makes for a vibrant community and one that is kind and supportive of each others interests more than you would find elsewhere.

I can’t say anything about Kenyon since I’m a Colby student, but I can say that Colby is a great place to get an education and spend the next 4 years of your life!

P.S. Boston is 3 hours from Colby, not 2, but there is plenty to do off campus right in Maine.

I have to make the same decision! How far away are you from both? I’m an east coaster so Colby is definitely easier to get to than plane-ride-away Kenyon.

I’m from Michigan…It’s just hard because all the lac’s sound the same! Location isn’t really an issue for me…I’m also considering Pomona and Hamilton so these schools are all in comletely different places.
