Coldplay

Coldplay is simply the finest band ever.....then maybe Ramones!Chris Martin is amazing!Coldplays first album is priceless, did anyone ever hear Brothers and Sisters? Not many I've spoke to have it was! great!X&Y.....I'm speechless anyone agree?

Coldplay and Oasis are pretty much tied for first in my book.

I think X&Y has a couple of flawed songs, but they're very high up on my list indeed

Oasis are becoming vintage, they actually dont care about who they please with their music and somehow come out on top. They are great, infact all Indie is fab!!A rush of blood to the head was great also, how would you rate "fix you"?
Sounds a little David Grey but it'll do,in my book.

Coldplay is just OK. to be honest, many of their songs all sound the same.

Brits put out better bands... like Bloc Party.

Bloc party!!mmmmmm....I have to be in the mood to listen to them kinda the mood were I wana sleep LOL!!What British artists are popular over there?Everyones goin crazy for R'n'b over here at the mo,dunno why, its crap.Actually I take that back Craig David and Nas were good. Why are there not many American-Indie bands that are successful for more than 2 years?

Never heard of Bloc party; not very up on the brit scene.

I enjoy coldplay quite a bit though. I love Parachutes, even though it's so short. I think I've had that CD forever...

Bloc party are ok but they try too hard!Paracutes...short but sweet I'd say.Coldplay are certainly a band Im proud to be into unlike years ago were I would have sold my family to see the Spice Girls in concert! They were amazing, yes the shame!! :-/

lol haha I totally remember when I liked the Spice Girls; it was like fifth grade and I even had the lollipops with the sticker collection. Wow, I think back then, I had their stuff on cassette tapes, not even CDs!

I went to see them in Manchester and me and my mum camped outside to get their autographs,I still got 'em!I remember my mum made me a costume to dress up as each Spice Girl...lol!!
I still have respect for them tho they did do fab!!!

There are plenty of American indie bands that have enjoyed success for more than two years (I assume you mean indie 'sounding' bands rather than actual independent artists). Sonic Youth, Modest Mouse, Sleater-Kinney and of Montreal have put out tons of records. There are a bunch more, obviously. Of course, I'm not sure how we are defining 'success'. All these artists have been successful in having loyal fans for many years, and some have even crossed over to radio success.

I mean Indie sounding of course.Success in my eyes is portrayed as gaining respect as musicians and not sex icons or promoting drugs or rebelism to gain fans like Christina Aguilera and Courtney Love. Not that theyre Indie but they get my point across.
Who are Modest Mouse?

Yeah there are a bunch of big american indie bands.

as for bloc party: This Modern Love and Blue Light are awesome songs

Do ya listen to Q?

great indie bands: Interpol, Spoon, Kaiser Chiefs, Death Cab For Cutie, Postal Service, Kasabian, Caesars, Bright Eyes, etc

I love the Postal Service, but at what point do you stop being indie and become mainstream? Or maybe you are inherently indie even if your song is playing in an M&M commercial?
Can someone give me a concrete definition of indie?

I just got Kaiser Chiefs album.Kasabian are good but I cant see them being round long already there are falls in attendance to performances. Now Interpol is a different story! They are incredible, they are different and avoid repeating base lines and if you've ever seen they're tabs they are so complex which brags their creativity.Maybe I'mgoing into depth with this but Indie is the best.......aswell as 80's music of course.T-Rex where probably the hidden influence of 21st century Indie!

Indie means you're pretty much not on one of the big record labels. Death Cab for Cutie recently signed to atlantic... basically like, indie bands rarely play big venues, mainly they play in small clubs, their music is rarely on the radio (maybe college radio) and you really wont see them on MTV. Those are defining characteristics of indie music

Well, Postal Service are on an indie label, Sub Pop. Also, it is a cover of Such Great Heights in the commercial by Iron & Wine.

Well.... Postal Service = Ben Gibbard for half, and Ben Gibbard is part of death cab, and now death cab is on Atlantic. You'll still see indie music in mainstream things though, like on commercials, movie soundtracks, hell -- laguna beach.
