Also if I can’t get in here what other schools should I look at? UMD CP, Fordham, Loyola Maryland, GWU, university of Richmond, ST. Lawerence, Dennison, providence college?

Is that the new SAT? It’s a bit low for Colgate. You could retake or take the ACT intime for ED.
If it’s your first choice and you can afford it, I don’t see a reason not to ED.

Btw, this is more of a “What are my chances?” thread.

@usualhopeful okay I am planning on takin SATs again and yes this is the new sat and thanks for the heads up on what thread whoops!

Those colleges listed in #1 are all in the range although there’s quite a bit of variety - for instance, why GWU (very urban, no real campus, medium size) on the same list as Colgate (very rural, gorgeous distinct campus, small LAC)?

Are you full pay, or did your sisters need financial aid?

@usualhopeful I really like both types of schools and I’m trying to keep all my options open! But yes my siblings both needed financial aid and I know Colgate is not needs blind so would this effect me and my chances greatly?

No, but it might affect your list significantly. Out of state publics are largely out; depending on what your family can afford, some with good merit aid (e.g. UAlabama) may stay on. So what can your family pay (ask soon)?

What state are your from?

The bulk of your list should probably be made up of schools which, like Colgate, meet or nearly meet financial need. About 60 schools meet need and a few more come very close (see this list: http://www.thecollegesolution.com/list-of-colleges-that-meet-100-of-financial-need/). Schools which match that criterion and are in the range for your stats include Trinity (CT), Clark, Skidmore, Bucknell, Connecticut College, Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg, Albright, Union, Mt. Holyoke (if female) and others. There are some more at about the same level of selectivity as Colgate which would be reachier for you.

Make sure you run an NPC before applying ED if you decide to do that. Colgate is probably affordable since it was before, but you want to double check with current financial information since it may be different for you and ED is binding. Do the same with other colleges and discuss with your parents to make sure you’re on the same page.

If you didn’t have a family connection to Colgate, you likely would have a low chance of acceptance. But since you do, ED is your best shot.

“and ED is binding” unless the financial aid offered is insufficient to support attendance, in which case you say thanks but no thanks and move on to RD (or perhaps ED2) somewhere else.

@vonlost True, but I think it’s ridiculous to ED without running an NPC. It’s just impractical otherwise.
