thanks so much!

Visit and interview. If you do that I would be surprised if you were rejected but have a Plan B.

Show demonstrated interest. Is your GPA strong for your school? From an outsider’s perspective, it seems a little low.

According to Colgate’s Common Data Set, neither the level of applicant’s interest nor interviews are considered in admission decisions.

Rubbish. That was among the most crowded of all the admin buildings over the summer interview season and Colgate had a nice spread of refreshments, ice cream sandwiches and snacks. If interviewing was not counted people wouldn’t come.

As an engaged alumnus of Colgate, I concur that demonstrating interest is extremely important. Your essays must demonstrate that you know what Colgate is about and how you will participate in its academic and extracurricular
life should you be admitted ED. And it goes without saying that you must tie this back to whatever the subject(s) of the essay(s) themselves.

What are other factors that really matter? Nothing surprising- it’s your high school’s reputation, class rank, grades and standardized scores. Plus the portfolio you have to show for your level of interest, engagement and maturity.

Best of luck with your college search!
