hi , i applied to colgate ED…still one more week till the decisons are mailed…what do u think my REALISTIC chances are:

SAt 1300 (680v 620m)
TOEFL 273
GPA round 4.5 (on a 5.00 scale)
i have 17 courses throughout the year ( and my grades are like: 12 As, 2 Bs , 3 Cs)…those Cs will probably hurt me…

eccs.:
volleyball for the past 4 years
class president
school drama club
school video&newspaper club
amnesty international
took french courses outside school

worked as a carwasher past 2 summers
handed out flyers for some big supermarket

spent past 2 summers in Summer schools in the USA ( Taft and NMH)-great recommendations- got all As there

my school recommendations are great- all the best
my essay-well, nothing special, not good enough to impress

there are two important things to know :

Im an international student from Croatia- and Colgate currently doesn’t have any students from Croatia

I would need(almost) a full scholarship or fin aid and i dont know how much that will hurt me

SO ? WHAt do you think?

also, any other schools you think i should apply to ?
i was considering these for RD :
smith
mount holyoke
lehigh
oberlin
lafayette
dickinson
allegheny
grinell
macalester
trinity
colby
franklin &marshall

what are my chances at those? match-reach??

I don't have a good feel for how international admissions work out - so I'm not going to guess chances. But, because of your financial situation, you should probably apply to a good many RD if ED doesn't work out. In your case, I'm not even sure if concerning on 'matches' and applying to less reaches is good, because your reaches might have more money available. I think more is better, here.

ohio mom, what do you mean by
"I'm not even sure if concerning on 'matches' and applying to less reaches is good"??
i really dont know what my matches/reaches are, i would appreciate if u could tell me, or suggest some. also i would need some safeties-so if u can come up with some, please do...

Well, it would help if I could write. The reachs on your list - Smith for example - may be harder to get into - but they may have more money available for internationals. The schools that are more of a match for you - Dickenson or Lehigh - may not have as much money to support you. What I am suggesting is that you apply to more schools than you might if money was not an issue. Some of these school may offer a fee waiver if you need it.

As I recall, last year on these boards a polish student was pretty successful with aid and admission at southern schools including Swanee. Might be worth looking into!

what southern schools did he apply to?whats Swanee?

and, could someone tell me(based on my stats) which of the colleges im applying to are my REACHs and which are MATCHs?

par72: i didnt take SAT2 and im not planning to(cause i believe i would do bad on those + i have no preparation for it) and i think Holy Cross requires it.all my other colleges dont require it.

my friend got into colgate ED with a 1380 SAT, outstanding grades and outstanding EC's -- if you weren't international I would say you wouldn't have much of a chance, but since you are that'll help you greatly.. good luck
