Colgate Pre-Orientation Trips...

How popular are these for incoming freshman...I just got something in the mail today, they look kind of interesting. Is it the kind of thing that if you don't go to you miss out majorly, or does only a small minority of the students actually participate in these (outdoor trip, cove, etc.)

A lot of kids do them...but you won't totally miss out if you can't. It's nice to know people before you get to campus though. I did sea kayaking and it was amazing!! I'd suggest you try and do one if you can! Have fun!

When I was there 15% went on them, so it's not like Dartmouth where 85% go, but it's a significant % and people seemed to enjoy them. However, this may have changed considerably since.

My daughter very much enjoyed the service trip and also liked the fact that she was able to move into her dorm room before the crowds arrived!

I'd suggest doing it- it's a great way to meet people before you start school. You meet a few new kids that you can eat with and hang out with- it's great.

is it better to do thye first or second uueek of the trips? i am thinking about doing the first uueek so i can go home before school starts and move in uuith the rest of the freshman.

it's your preference. we live far away, she had just come home from a trip so she did the 2nd and yes, moved in with the throngs of others. Another girl from here went back and forth so she could drive out with her parents. I don't think there is a better choice

As a sophomore, who did outreach, I would definitely recomend doing one of the pre-orientation programs. The great thing about Colgate is that there is no stereotype of who does which program, etc. It was a lot of fun and some of the people who were in group are now some of my closest friends.
