<p>** Decision: Accepted**</p>

[* ] ACT:
[* ] SAT II: Math I - 670, Literature - 710

[* ] I/GCSE grades: A* in English Literature, Math, Biology, Economics, German and Chinese, A in English Language, History and Drama, and B in geography.</p>

<p>[/list]Subjective:[ul]
[* ] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Co-coach of the school’s junior netball team.
[* ] Job/Work Experience: Had a summer internship at a marketing firm.
[* ] Volunteer/Community service: Spent a week in an orphanage in Nepal.
[* ] Summer Activities: None that are deemed constructive by colleges.
[* ] Essays: My Common App one was about a personal moral dilemma I faced and my line of thought in arriving the decision I made. The Colgate Supplement essay question was about what I would contribute to the Colgate community. I still remember that this was the essay which I felt was the quickest and most honestly written out of all the others - I wrote about how I didn’t really have a plan because I didn’t want to force my values on other people.
[* ] Teacher Recommendation: One from my literature teacher (average) and one from my economics teacher (really positive).
[* ] Counselor Rec: Written by my history teacher whom I’ve known for seven years. He wrote about how I was unafraid to be unorthodox and challenge conventional views whilst being respectful nonetheless (and he told a number of anecdotes), and in spite of this I had achieved great academic results.
[* ] Additional Rec: N/A
[* ] Interview: N/A
[* ] Supplementary Material(if any): N/A</p>

<p>[/ul][ b]Other**[ul]
[* ] State (if domestic applicant): N/A
[* ] Country (if international applicant): Hong Kong
[* ] School Type: A private international school
[* ] Ethnicity: Chinese
[* ] Gender: Female
[* ] Income Bracket (specify if applied for FA): Didn’t apply for FA
[* ] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None? :(</p>

<p>[/ul][ b]Reflection**[ul]
[* ] Strengths: Had steady academic improvement over the years, got pretty okay IGCSE and AS grades.
[* ] Weaknesses: My SAT Math I score - it didn’t really say much about my abilities and strengths but I didn’t know what else to take. It was the easier math test, and my score wasn’t even very good.
[* ] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: According to the handwritten comment at the bottom of my acceptance letter (can I just add that I found it really sweet! :D), they said that they could really see my passion for my blog throughout my application. I found that surprising because I had mentioned that I have a blog which now has almost 50k readers from over 110 countries, but I didn’t elaborate on this in my essays or anything. I guess they must’ve looked up the blog name from the application and liked what they read? I do think it was really nice of them to take the time to look at it.
[* ] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Waitlisted at Boston College, NYU Stern and UMichigan. Rejected from Brown, Amherst, Berkeley, Chicago, Northwestern and USC. Waiting to hear back from three universities in Hong Kong.</p>

<p>[/ul][ b]General Comments:**
Was initially pretty upset even though I knew that I had made pretty aggressive choices. Having said that, Colgate is what I was looking for at the beginning of the year before I got too carried away with applying to the big names - it’s a good, small liberal arts college on the East Coast. If none of the waitlists or Hong Kong unis bring positive news, I think I’ll still be pretty happy at Colgate. So…not a sad outcome? :)</p>
