Colgate University (ED) (International)

<p>Hi,
I'm an international applicant from India.
I've already applied ED to Colgate (really love the college), but I'd still like to know my chances of actually getting admitted.
I have applied for financial aid.</p>

<p>Male, attending best school in the city.
Preferred major -- Computer Science.
Took the most demanding courses all throughout high school.</p>

<p>SAT 1 - 2120 ( 740 M(97%tile) 660 CR(90%tile) 720 WR(97%tile) (10 essay) )
(most recent score)</p>

<p>Recommendations -- one really good (Teacher), two good (Guidance Counselor and Teacher)</p>

<p>Essay -- I was completely honest in the essay. It was very personal and no one has read my essay except me so I really can't say whether its good or bad.
I'm definitely sure that I wrote a good reply to the Colgate essay (What would you pursue, design or accomplish if money were no object?).</p>

<p>Transcript --</p>

<p>Second Decile in a class of 36 students.
Now here's the problem,
The highest grade awarded to seniors this year was a B (only one guy got it and I got a C+)
So I got my guidance counselor to write a letter explaining the fact that no one has ever received an A and also mention that the top 5 students usually get a B or a C+(its true, can't help my school's grading system)
I have absolutely no idea how this is going to look in my application....... :(</p>

<p>EC :-</p>

<p>Was chosen as the school's representative at an inter-school fest. Brought back the First Place trophy. (14 schools participated)
Founder of my school's Computer Club
Active member of my school's Debate Club.
Won a LOT of awards throughout high school related to Computer programming, design and gaming(:P)
I sat for the Mensa (IQ) exam in my city and scored in the 97th percentile (missed being accepted into Mensa by one question :( )
Decent community service record.
Acted in a few plays.
Active in school sports.
Am an active photographer (sent some of my photos)
Am an active artist (sent copies of my drawings) (Note :- I draw using only a pen or a pencil ) (no painting)
Oh yeah, I also mentioned that I play the drums.</p>

<p>If I do not get into Colgate i will most likely be applying to the following colleges:-</p>

<p>Colby College
Dickinson College (can this be considered as a safety since i will be applying Early Action??) ( though, i do like the college a lot)
Grinnell College
Hamilton College (??)
Lafayette College
Macalester College
Vassar College
Washington & Lee University
Wesleyan University</p>

<p>And thanks in advance for taking the time to read my post and commening :)</p>

<p>sooo.....did anyone even read this thread?</p>

<p>An international needing aid has no safeties. You need to apply to schools where you're at the very top of the applicant pool at schools that are not need blind for internationals. On that basis Colgate is a real reach as are most of your schools.</p>

<p>then what colleges do you suggest I apply to ?</p>

<p>I would look for schools with a low percentage of Asians in the South and Midwest. Ask on the international board to find which the most generous are, but I think you're looking at schools like Rhodes and Swanee and
Oxford College at Emory. Grinnell is a good pick but a lot of internationals apply there.</p>

<p>any other comments?</p>

<p>If Colgate is need blind you've got a good chance. You're diverse, very good scores. I'm an international too, and I don't think you're chances are too bad. And you've shown real interest in the school by applying ED so good luck!</p>

<p>thanks a lot for your comments :)</p>
