Colgate University vs. Macalester College

So I have to choose one match schools out of these two, but I’m not sure which one to choose. I feel like both are high matches, but I’m also looking for a relatively safer match (most of my matches are reaches right now).

I want to major in Studio Art, and possibly double-major in another branch of the Humanities. Based on what I want, which would fit me most?

I have a 4.43 GPA (out of 4.8) and 1530 SAT score

I don’t think of either of your listed schools as being notably strong for studio art. Nonetheless a college like Colgate would be excellent for humanities fields such as English literature and history.

With respect to other choices, you should probably consider a few from Williams, Vassar, Skidmore, Hamilton, Kenyon, Smith and Wheaton (MA) for reaches, matches and safer admits.

What’s the rest of your list?

Do you a preference on location?

Colgate is more preppy, jocky and has pretty robust greek life. Does that appeal to you?

The two schools are pretty different.

I don’t really a preference for location. My college list is consisted of small liberal arts schools. Though, I’m not against a school that’s preppy/jocky.

Haha actually, a lot of the schools you listed are already on my list. I was looking at Hamilton and I really like the school, but I feel like it’s too high of a reach. Any thoughts?

If Hamilton is too high a reach, so is Colgate. I think you’ll find those 2 have similar profiles stats wise. Macalester is likely to be a bit easier.

Mac and Colgate really couldn’t be more different in terms of vibe, location, etc. Colgate is much more like those on the list above.

Did you consider Bard or Tufts? Both have very strong studio art coupled with excellent humanities. Bard could be closer to a match.

Reading your post, Hamilton immediately came to mind as they have a new, beautiful arts building. I also thought of Skidmore. Colgate is a fantastic school but not one I think of for art.
