I am looking to apply to either one ED. I really liked both of the schools so I am having alot of trouble deciding.

From what I've seen/heard I think Bucknell has more to offer in terms of majors/minors. It also seems to have more to do because Lewisburg is a bigger town than Hamilton. I know Greek Life is a big deal there, which I think I would like but I am not sure. Is Bucknell social life defined by Greek Life? For instance, do students that are not in Greek organizations feel left out of social scene? I know Bucknell also organizes alot of events for the student body which I think is cool. Is there alot of school spirit?

I know Colgate is a more competitive school in terms of acceptance rates. I don't really mind that Hamilton is small and can get very cold. I have heard such great things about the school and got a great vibe when I visited. I think I would love the academic part of the school, but I don't really know anything about the social life there. I've heard it's a fun school. I like that you can go greek if you want, but it doesn't define the school. Is it easy to find stuff to do at Colgate? Also what is school spirit like at Colgate?

I think the people at both schools seem similar. I don't want to go to a school where the people are cliquey and segregated, which I've heard sometimes happens with Greek life. I also love school spirit so I am looking for that! I just want to go to the school which I will have fun at, although I'm sure i'd love both. I'm just worried I am going to make the wrong decision. Sorry for my rambling, but I don't want to make any assumptions about either school or the students so if anyone has any input that would be great!

You are in no way ready to apply to these schools ED.

You should be absolutely sure you will attend and love it if you apply ED. Why not apply to both RD? Likely, then, you’ll be able to visit when accepted and make an informed choice.

Just because you can apply ED doesn’t mean you should.

JoBenny, yes I have visited both schools twice and done class visits to both. Moonchild, I really love and could see myself at either school. Maybe I wasn’t clear about that in my initial post. But ED would raise my chances at both schools and make the decision less stressful for me, as I am fairly indecisive. I am just looking for more information on both the schools from students that go there I guess. I may not end up applying ED to either, but I think it is my best option.

I don’t know much about Bucknell, but I had done some research into Colgate since I was thinking of applying there. It definitely has a work hard and play hard vibe. I think you won’t have a problem with not having much of a social life there. The one problem is is that Hamilton is about 4 hours from the next major major city, New York City, but if that doesn’t really matter to you, then I think Colgate would be a good match. Also it does appear applying to Colgate helps you a lot in regards to admission because I think that admission rate jumps up to be about 45%.

I was just curious where you decided to apply. My daughter has been lamenting over the same choice, but is choosing to apply ED to Bucknell. Both schools are wonderful choices and offer a fabulous education. However, after she visited both for a day of classes, she solidified her decision. She personally felt a better vibe on the Bucknell campus. She said the students were very friendly and welcoming, and she felt like it was a better fit for her. I am sure part of the reason is that her brother is a Junior at Bucknell and he has nothing but great things to say about his experience. He is a Bio Chem / Cell Biology major, and has been fully challenged in his field. He also has had a great working relationship with his professors and wonderful research opportunities available to him. The science facilities at Bucknell are second to none. My daughter is looking to major in business, with minors in several areas. Bucknell has a business major. Colgate does not offer a specific business major, although they do have pre-professional planning for business. Like I said earlier, both universities offer a great education and I am sure, very similar experiences. You cannot go wrong wither way. If comes down to fit and which school offers what you are looking for. Best of Luck!

I can’t speak to Colgate much because everyone I know who attended there is closer to my age, but my son is a freshman at Bucknell and absolutely loves it! The students are very, very friendly and warm there. He’s made a ton of friends there very easily just based on his dorm and playing a club sport. It was an extremely easy adjustment for him . . .
