Hey please help me determine what college to apply to. I am hispanic and I am looking to major in Business Economics and maybe in Engineering. I go to a New england prep school so I am around the preppy culture all the time. Sometimes it gets annoying, but I mostly like it. I am looking for the best school, with good greek life and a good party school, which also has great academics. My main question though is familiarity with the name and what school is the most prestigious. I want to go into business after college, maybe looking to go into consulting, so what school has the best career placement? Also, I just heard of richmond when I saw undergrad rankings for business and I looked into it further.

What mostly appeals me to Richmond is the notion that it is like a less selective version of UVA. what do you think?

Have you visited the campuses? Bucknell is one large walkable campus, while I think Richmond is more spread out - see which appeals to you more. I don’tknow Colgate at all.

The contacts I have made thru Bucknell have served me well in personal and career life. I know many Bucknellians who work on Wall Street or have formed their own companies. Bucknell does extremely well in salary surveys: [News: Bucknell alumni rank high in salary survey || Bucknell University](http://www.bucknell.edu/x71219.xml)

I would not concern yourself with a prestigious name - it is more important to like and enjoy the school you pick.

They are all excellent schools, but I think (you should verify) that only Bucknell has engineering and business – so based upon your interests, I’d go with Bucknell.

And from what I know, Richmond is very different from UVA. UVA is a large state school while Richmond is a much smaller LAC. Both are great schools though.

I agree that Richmond is different than UVA, but through the internet, it just feels like it has the same type of culture (Warm Southern Hospitality). Richmond has a Business school that ranked 12th in the businesweek rankings. Bucknell has a schools of management, but they told me it is not yet an official business school, but soon will be. Bucknell also has engineering. Colgate has neither, but still has great career placement for math and econ majors for business.

I’m pretty sure that I am going to rule Colgate out now. Thank you. Colgate is a bit more prestigious based on the naviance college placement online program at my school, having its GPA and SAT averages higher than the other two.

Bucknell and Richmond are for my last spot of “match/possible” schools. The other five are Tulane, Miami, GW, Villanova, and Lehigh.

So what is your input now on these two schools.?

Any reason why Lehigh is not on your list? It is strong in Business and Engineering and offers an IBE program (Integrated Business and Engineering) where you can combine the two.

My D was accepted to both Richmond and Lehigh for business and/or accounting and offered very similar (and generous) FA packages. They were her 1st and 2nd choices. In the end she felt Lehigh was the best fit and she is very happy there.

Great choices. I suggest adding both to your list. 7 applications is not unusual. Most students at my son’s CT high school applied to 8-10 schools. DS is a freshman and is very happy with his choice: UMiami.

True, Bucknell may not have a “school of business” per se, but it does offer several Management degrees including a Bachelor of Management for Engineers. I am not sure how much it matters what the school offers once you pick your degree program.

I would say that BU’s engineering program is superior to Villanova’s. And Lehigh is also a good choice for both engineering and business. Don’t know as much about your other schools to comment on.
