Colgate vs. Lehigh

I recently got accepted to both Colgate and Lehigh. I was pretty set on Lehigh, but a lot of information online seems to say that Lehigh is giant party school where you basically have to be part of the Greek system to have a social life. Because of this I am starting to consider Colgate more. If you could please list some pros and cons for each school, that would be great.

What do you want to major in?

i had the same question!
i want to maor in chemistry. which would be better?
and is a 2020 sat score good enough to get into Lehigh or could I go to a better school?

I’m interested in majoring in economics and possibly a minor in chemisty or political science.

And l0issangel, I got a 2070 on my SAT and a 32 on my ACT. I got into Lehigh and Colgate, but was rejected from Middlebury and Cornell. I think a 2020 is a good fit for a school like Lehigh, but if you want to go up a tier in schools, you probably need to increase to above a 2100. In terms of chemistry, I’m not sure which would be better. My guess is they would be pretty similar.

Older D graduated from Colgate in 2008. Younger S just sent his deposit into Lehigh.

If you think there is no party scene at Colgate, you are mistaken. We went to the torch ceremony at D’s graduation weekend (where the students all walk down the hill carrying live torches, and throw them into the pond). Not only were most of the students obviously drunk, they were carrying their own beer as they walked with FIRE on the end of these sticks. No one was (or apparently ever have been) injured.

It was quite a sight.

There are a number of frats and sororities there as well.

I have been reading the Lehigh board here, and most of the posts indicate that while, yes there is a large greek scene there, it is not even the majority of students. It is very easy for someone not in a fraternity/sorority, or not a drinker/substance user to have a great social life.

So I think if you have visited both schools, you should go with the one that you feel the most comfortable with. They are academically equivalent (although with differing strengths).

Good luck hugs

oh linusm,
where else did u apply and get in? if you dont mind sharing

I got into CU Boulder, University of Vermont, University of Washington, Lehigh, and Colgate. I was rejected from Cornell and Middlebury.

what was ur gpa? w and uw?

Colgate´s economics and political science are top notch. Many people don´t think of Colgate when it comes to science, but it has a great science facility. If you are thinking about majoring in economics, you are probably interested in business (finance). Colgate graduates are very well represented in that space in the NE. When I think of Lehigh, I think of engineering.
