I’m really beginning to feel like I’m not going to get into college. This process of waiting, trying to figure out whether or not my grades and SAT’s are good enough to get into a CSU, is stressful. My emotions are all over the place. I’m super happy that my friends are getting acceptance, but I’m jealous as well because I haven’t heard anything. I’ve only applied to four CSU’s, with Chico being my #1 choice. I applied early October, with hopes that I would hear by now. My GPA is 3.36 and SAT 1200. My major is Kinesiology. At this point, I know I need to be patient and hope for the best. But, it’s so hard!!
It is hard. It’s a long senior year of waiting. Hang in there. You can do it.
@NorthernMom61 Thank you
The take away for others (younger students who will apply next year) is to be sure to apply to a few rolling admissions and/or Early Actions that you are confident you will be accepted. Get those applications in early so you have some early answers.
This helps reduce the stress and waiting during senior year. It gives the student options and everyone feels good when they get an acceptance even if it isn’t their first choice school.
you shouldn’t have any trouble getting into Chico.
Where else did you apply.
Perhaps it is a bit late for OP but for other readers. To make it less stressful, one may want to have at least a low match or safety in the EA round, particularly those require EA for merit aid consideration.
@NCalRent. I applied at Cal Poly SLO, Sonoma, and Sacramento. I know SLO is a long shot, but you never know.
You are in CA. That means that there is a perfectly fine CCC probably within commuting distance from your home that you can attend this fall if you aren’t accepted to any of the universities on your list. So take a good long look at the CCCs near you, and investigate the ones that are a bit farther away that have residences if you want out of your house. http://www.cccco.edu/CommunityColleges/CollegeHousing.aspx Lock in at least one of these, and you will feel much less panic about the fall.
This may not comfort you much but, as long as you’ve got the a-g courses and accurately reflect your GPA/SAT above, I am virtually certain you will get into Chico, Sac and Sonoma. With SLO, I agree, you have a chance until they tell you otherwise.
Sonoma, for some reason, is always late. Sac and Chico were both pretty early responders for both of my kids (both of whom had stats similar to yours and my oldest graduated from Chico in December).
Stay patient and check your portal regularly. You might also monitor social media to see when blocks of admissions/denials go out.
Did you check your portal or just checking your regular email???
@NCalRent, I’ve heard that Chico is just looking at 10-11th grade for GPA and EI. I’m not sure about the others.
@Themathaw, I look every other day at my portals
Hang in there! It does seem like a really long wait but the CA schools are later than many OOS colleges. Also, many CSUs are getting larger numbers of applications this year. My S18 applied to 3 - SLO, Pomona and SJSU. Last week he finally heard from Pomona. Still nothing from the other two but he has heard from several OOS schools.
Kinesiology is a tough admit. You have my sympathies. You’ll get into at least one, it just stinks waiting to see which one.
@lovespink Congrats to your son for being accepted into Pomona! That’s awesome. My friend goes there and loves it!
@CopperlineX2 When I went to Chico in October and toured the Kinesiology department, the professors were telling us that the department wasn’t impacted. I’m not sure about the other schools.
Yes, this waiting part is tough!!
@maddog00 We know several Chico students who adore the place. Hope you get in! My son was accepted to Pomona as well for computer science and is seriously considering attending. What is your CPP friend’s major?
Her major is Kinesiology
