Would I have a good chance of making it into Brown University?
If I can't I want to know now as a sophmore in high school

Your test scores put you to low/mid average in terms of brown according to college board.

I see you’re a rising Junior, that’s one of the biggest years colleges tend to look at, since that’s usually when people begin taking their most advanced classes. Colleges will look at the most challenging courses available at your school and see how well you took advantage of them. Stay strong academically, build your GPA up a bit higher, and keep up with your ECs, and you should be fine. If you got a 30 on the ACT that early, odds are you can do even better through retaking it so keep that option open.

I can’t honestly give you an accurate answer for the following reasons:

1)You’ve only finished your sophomore year, and haven’t built up and gone through some of the biggest parts of your high school career. There’s also not very specific information here.

2)The ivy league schools such as Brown tend to be a bit erratic in their choosing-that is-getting perfect stats doesn’t ensure admission.

I don’t claim to be an expert, and I doubt many people on the chancing forums are. Just take the advice with a grain of salt and make your own decision. The way you’re going now, you have a fighting chance to get into Brown.

Here’s the deal. No one can answer that question until you submit your application, then the admissions committee will let you know.

Brown is a highly selective school, the admit rate is now below 10% Without doubt your Stats and EC’s put you in solid range of accepted students. You must realize that this sort of profile is not unusual for their applicants. So many kids with those stats will get rejected.

Brown seems to look closely at the applicant, their background, their essays, as well as your progam of study and it’s rigor. I believe very unusual and interesting students have a bit of an edge.

My daughter didn’t have quite a strong of stats as you, but I believe a special and unusual EC which she demonstrated passion and depth of exploration in, along with her LOR’s could have been a big factor. 8 kids from her rigorous private school applied that year and only she and the boy’s Val were accepted.

So you do your best in H.S., you pick a good selection of schools (look at Brown overlaps) and you throw your hat in the ring.

2300 on the SAT is actually 75th percentile at Brown.

Try bringing up your GPA (unless you go to a very challenging high school and that places you among the top few percents of students). Your stats would then be more than sufficient (I wouldn’t worry about ACT since your SAT is fantastic).

Focus on developing very interesting extracurriculars. These are good but they are pretty common among Ivy League applicants. Find things that show leadership but also show passion and interest. Don’t just do things you don’t care about.

I was just going by average on collegeboard, my mistake. When I said that, I was referring more to the ACT more than the SAT, as brown’s average ACT is 29 - 33 according to CB, but most send the SAT. I should have been more clear there.
