College Acceptances at High Schools

Nope
considering a 94-95 average would probably rank you in the 25th percentile at best, it's a bad idea.

POIH you have too much time on your hands. Analyzing matriculation data is really quite pointless and is probably putting undue pressure on your daughter.

bronx school?

^^i'm curious too. i'm pretty sure bronx science only got a few people into mit this year, nowhere near 15. i think the same applies to hunter. i might be wrong though so correct me if that's the case =D

WOW.... I go to a catholic girls' school where girls get a really good education but where a lot of them are not as into the "top college" thing...
we have these reputations in the USC adcom's office and I swear almost everyone ends up applying and most get in.
We sent one person to an Ivy this year (Princeton of the waitlist) and a few other girls got in to Brown/Cornell and maybe some other ivies, as well as stanford (and turned them down for Berkeley, UCLA, or SC), but we have NEVER sent anyone to Harvard or Yale, ever. Never ever.

(I'd like to be the first :D)

Tis Hunter :]

And it's of the past two years, not the past year. But yeah.

that looks more like the results for the last 4 years. There are 797 matriculants on that list, not counting yale, so a bit over 800 (you said the class size was ~200 right?). That sounds much more reasonable since someone from hunter (also going to mit next year) was amazed that 16 people got into mit from stuy --- and i was confused because 29/2 (for mit) gives pretty much the same stats for hunter.

proportionally, though, hunters sends a higher percentage than stuy.

wow tachobg i cannot believe you added alll of that up lol. but are you sure you're not adding the number on the left? that's only accepted

lol i was bored - plus, i had to satisfy my burning curiosity =D.

no it was the matriculated side on the right

Oh, well...the website states that it's only for 2 years, but that makes sense. Sorry about that.

Parentofivyhope, is your child's sn: DaughterofPhyscoticPrestigeWh***?

Yes Harker is a wonderful school. But who in their right mind pays $30,000 for one year of high school? (I guess that would be you). The reason why Harker has a good matriculation list (apparently good enough that parents can get self-esteem by bragging about it on an online forum: bumper sticker: My Child Was Classmate of Ivy-Bound Students) is because many of the students are rich kids. Where do you think many rich and connected Stanford alumns send their kids? Harker! Silicon Valley is a breeding ground for developmental/legacy admits at elite institutions around the nation. Your daughter is not getting a better education at Harker than at any of the catholic prep schools (tuition about 1/3 the price) or the competitive public schools (tuition free). If your daughter is hooked, it won't matter where she goes or what she does in high school. If she isn't hooked, she would probably have a better chance of admittance coming from a school without as much competiton. Either way, if you want your daughter to be happy, spend less time crunching numbers/editing wikipedia and more time with her! Or just save the 30k and buy her counseling.

Princeton - 4
Yale - 3
Stanford - 1
Duke - 3

Vanderbilt - 4

...

What sick schools from hell do you guys come from? I was the first Ivy acceptance from my school in three years, the first ever to go to Princeton, and the previous two were on athletic scholarships. The admissions game seems stacked against the midwest.

teenage_cliche: what was the total number of students for all years to 2007?
Without that the data means nothing.

trackstar23: You might be wrong. It is not necessary that only hooked students matriculate to top schools. There are lot of hard working non hooked students go to top schools every year.

I send my daughter to a private school for the environment and a well rounded education that will provide her the basis to be successful in the real life.

Find one single person who will reject a top private high school education if the money is not involved. You can't feel the difference if you have not gone thru such an experience. A good private school education surpasses any top of the line public or parochial school.

So if I can afford to pay $30K then I should provide that experience to my daughter.

My wife and I would be that one counter example ... we have quite consciously choicen where we live and THE prime reason is the access to the public schools which our kids attend ( ... and counter to your theory we could send them to top private schools if we wanted to). I replied earlier in this string that I am VERY HAPPY my kid's school DOES NOT have many of the attributes you hold so dear about your kid's school. I'm happy for you and your kids that you have found a school that you believe is so good for your kids ... that said I do wish you would return the favor and respect other family's choices that differ from those you made.

Touchdown, those are great numbers - Is the school in Massachusetts?

Just as a side note - I feel that it is interesting to see the matriculation numbers of different schools. However, I'm strongly against declaring schools as "better" than others just because they send more students to ivies.
