College Acceptances: celebrate here!

Carolyn, congrats to you and your D! Those are four wonderful colleges that she has been accepted to! I'm sure it will be a tough decision for her!

Congrats to all! Carolyn, I hope you stick around through the next child's application process!

My son's been accepted (finance major) to Indiana University (Bloomington), Purdue University, and University of Oregon--so he's 3 for 3 right now. He's waiting on NYU (his first choice), Bentley College, University of Pittsburgh, and Fordham University. (All are great places in my view.)

If he doesn't get into NYU, he'll probably go to Indiana, Purdue, or Bentley. Oh, and he received a $4,000 merit scholarship offer from Indiana Univ. so what financial aid package Bentley offers could make a difference.

Carolyn- that is great news. You and your D sure did this thing well, but I'm not surprised. I hope some kids review this thread to see all the neat schools- there IS life beyond the crapshoot elites!
Good work, everyone. I think Redlands sounds amazing.

Just wanted to post that D was accepted to Brandeis. 3 for 3 so far! And now a breather until April 1st.

Calcruzer, Sounds like you're another Calif. parent with a child that wants to get out of dodge. My daughter is very excited about living in a different part of the country....although we'll see how she does in winter weather. :) Congratulations to your son --- he already has some great choices!

Carolyn, Thanks for the comment

Yes, strangely enough, a place where it snows was a requirement for my son. I think it comes from the 8 years of so that we lived in Utah and Maryland while he was growing up.

Congratulations to Quiltguru's daughter on her Brandeis acceptance. Is she considering it or is it Yale all the way?

Congrats to Carolyn and her daughter - wow, you are done!

Wolfpiper - that's incredible! Way to go!!!

IzzyJ and KathieP - congrats to you too! :)

Thanks sybbie719, carolyn, FresnoMom and everyone else for the congrats :) And a big congratulations to bostonpops, IzzyJ, KathieP, wolfpiper (7/7 is awesome! Hope I'm so lucky), Calcruzer9 and quiltguru for you or your S/D acceptances!

Carolyn, congratulations on the Goucher acceptance! I'll always remember them for one of my favorite college publications ever. Nice work getting the clean sweep as well. Also glad to hear you both liked Redlands. When I'm making my decision, I'll definitely talk to lamom's son about it to get some inside info.

FresnoMom: It definitely is a good college and runs nicely. That's great that he got such a great email back, I might try that as well.

Congrats to IzzyJ and Carolyn's D. Beloit is #1 for my dtr though she won't apply till fall. Goucher is also great--hope we can narrow choices down to just 4 or 5 outstanding options as well. Just pack warm clothes--except for this winter, our MW winters can be cold, windy and snowy!

Congrats to all,

very encouraging results in a tough admissions year and still RD decisions to come!

Carolyn, I appreciate hearing about Goucher since that would have been D's safety--useful to know about how much one could expect for merit.

quiltguru-- if your D ends up at Brandeis, perhaps we can meet with the other Brandeis CC people at orientation.

I wanted to wait until we found out more about my S acceptances. Here are the final four that he is considering.

Illinois Institute of Technology, he received a 16,600 scholarship/grant. We haven't been there yet so if anyone has any knowledge of this school, I'd be glad to hear.

Ohio State, he was not an auto admit to the Honors college but after talking to the dean it sounds like he will get into his first choice Scholars Program. (crossing fingers here!)

U of Cincinnati, guarantee of $2000, not expecting any more.

Michigan Tech, granted in-state tuition.

Not as impressive as some, but he's very happy. And glad to have his acceptances in before many of his friends. This is how he planned things and he couldn't be happier. Now if he can just make up his mind.

I think that 16,600 scholarship/grant along with the other scholarships and in-state tuition from an out of state school is pretty impressive !!

The great thing is that he now has a choice of schools where he will get a great education and they have shown him love ($$).

Big Congrats to you and son

Carolyn, big congrats. I love happy endings.
Fesnomom-I am also offering my son to you-he will be more than willing to share anything about the school of music. Son is outrageously busy this semester, but loves to share his school.
Carolyn-my husband (from NJ) doesn't believe me when I tell him your daughter knows the weather will be colder if she leaves CA. He just shakes his head and tells me about layers of clothes and slipping on ice.

Michigan State- Engineering
San Diego State- Engineering
San Jose State- Engineering

Great job Smitty!!! Do you have more still to go? Are you leaning towards any particular school?

believe me when I tell him your daughter knows the weather will be colder if she leaves CA. He just shakes his head and tells me about layers of clothes and slipping on ice.

I don't believe my daughter when she says she knows about the weather either. LOL! For instance, we were discussing whether we should allow her to take her car. I pointed out that she doesn't know how to WALK on ice/snow, let alone DRIVE on it. And, when I added that she'd have to get a scraper so she could get the ice off her windshield, she looked at me and said "Why wouldn't I just turn on my windshield wipers like I do here when it rains?" Then she tried on the warm winter jacket I bought on sale and said "I can't wear this! It's so heavy!" Oh yeah. She's got a lot to learn about cold weather. Her NY-born Mom is going to be laughing all the way through, but deep down I see the cold as my secret weapon to insure her return to So. Cal upon graduation. :)

Deb, Congratulations to your son on a great list of acceptances!

Pyewacket, D. didn't qualify for Goucher's top merit award, so your daughter likely would have received more.

Mezzomom - Congratulations on your daughter's wonderful achievements! :)
