College Acceptances: celebrate here!

Dear all,

The previous posting is supposed to be from me, arkteck's dad, but we share the same PC, and he was automatically logged in. Sorry son!

We all wish your son happy outcomes and someplace he will love to call his own come fall 2006...good luck!

mum2boys - nice surprise to find when you arrive! Congratulations!

IvyHopeful - congratulations to you and arkteck! and good luck for future news. (and also - Welcome to CC !!)

thanks, Hayden, it was a nice boost at the end of vacation - congratulations, Ivyhopeful, to you and your son. My son is still waiting to hear from several schools next month, including a few ivies as well - going to be a long month but a lot more comfortable when you have an acceptance already in hand. Good luck to all over these next 5 weeks!

Faline2, Hayden & Mum2boys -- thanks for the warm welcome.

Read recently that the number of applicants to Ivies has shot up sharply this year, hence making the competition tougher based on the same intake percentage. By age, the class of 2010 are those born in the year 1988, which is the year of the Dragon in chinese astrology and hence a propitious year to have children. That's perhaps my take of the increase.

While studying in a US high school since his sophomore year, my S is considered an international applicant, hence he is facing even tougher competition for admission.

So fingers crossed.

What an honor mum2boys, top 200 apps. And to everyone, congratulations - I hope all our kids get what they want. :)

congrats on that Colgate honors admit, Mum2boys. Our dear friend here is a grad and I don't know a finer man. He says he worked much harder at Colgate than later at med school.
IvyhopefulDad..so many of our colleges deliver a great foundation for grad school...help your guy also also emotionally attach to his match applications is my sage advice since instruction there is often Ivy quality even if admissions are a bit more sane, although my S also put heart and effort in an Ivy application that ended in waitlistville. We are never sorry he tried, and the effort became largely an interesting family memory. I am still coasting around minus one son on CC, but S is a freshman and told me "I never ever think about my old applications anymore, and neither do my friends--we are totally about our new lives where we are." Your son is going to bring something extra to his campus next fall with his international background. hope doors open that make him a happy guy.

Fireflyscout,

I saw that your DD got into Macalester! Fabulous news!!!

Way to go!

Excellent news on Macalester, fireflyscout! WOO HOO! :D

Son:
Harvard (accepted EA)
Stanford (likely letter w/acceptance)
Duke (likely letter)
UVA (likely letter w/invitation to scholarship weekend)
Wake Forest (invited/attended the Reynolds scholarship four days) so likely admit
UPENN (waiting on RD)

Stanford has always been his top choice, but now he is undecided. Financially, we still have to take a hard look on what works best also. But, it great he has choices.

APSDad

Wow! What a great list of acceptances! Your son must be so excited!

APSDAD-

Congratulations to your son! You must be so proud.

Carolyn,

WE got one!

Santa Clara University. The enveolpe is a big one and though I don't dare open it, I can read the top line pretty easily. And oldest son is on his way home from UCSC to collect some of his things so we all get to share the happiness. Son really liked SCU and its campus, his dad had such a good experience in their MBA program.

Thats all for now. Can't read the letter for a couple more hours.

Thanks Carolyn for all your help. Having an acceptance in hand is a nice feeling. Haven't heard anything from the other schools.

Congrats sweetkidsmom :) I got the same exact envelope and so it was pretty obvious to me as well. It's always wonderful to get the first acceptance. Hope your S gets into the others as well.

Anoel, Thanks and congrats on your three so far too. We really like SCU and with his type of dietary restrictions this school would work well for him. But he still doesn't know he got in. Another twenty minutes or so.

Congrats to APSDAD, sweetkidsmom and Anoel.

BTW what is SCU as I'm new to the forum?

Andi, congratulations to you and your son. 4 years at Brandeis tuition free...awesome.

Andi -- Congratulations to your son and your family. Nice going!

Pop the corks for Andison! Outstanding, and even more to come.

Congrats to Anoel, sweetkidsmom and APSDAD!! That's such wonderful news for you all.

and sneaking in under the radar, from the other thread I see another acceptance for ANDISON !!! Congratulations, andi! So very wonderful.
