College Acceptances: celebrate here!

You should be sittin' pretty after seeing UNC's very young team ruin Senior Night at Duke.

Congrats on your NYU and Ramblin Wreck admits, and best of luck re Chapel Hill, even with that screen name.

from a Duke parent!

well...we love unc and love it when they win. my d visited nyu twice and loved it but i don't like the idea of her there. tech is a great choice but the social aspect of unc appeals lots. we just prefer smaller town to bigger city.

and yes, beathing duke was part of it.

i posted after reading another reply and did not see yours... you have a very good attitude considering. as for senior night, seniors are celebrating whether they win or lose!

will have to change it to beatcavs or beathokies next week?

^^
Nah, keep your name!
I think that JJ would have given up the Sports Illustrated cover to have won that game, but as Coach K said afterwards, 'It's tough to win with JJ going 5 for 23.'
I was really impressed with that young UNC team!
btw, it will be UCONN for the Big Dance win.

Go Heels....

And btw, notice the proper spelling for Duke if you are a Carolina person.

I JUST GOT INTO SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY AND I'M A DEAN'S SCHOLAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I AM SO HAPPY BECAUSE THIS IS MY FIRST ACCEPTANCE!!!! :) :) :)

Oh My! DD just got a 'Carolina love letter'!!! What does this mean?? Can we be excited? Anyone?

Yes, be excited!! Congratulations!

Yea!!!! We hadn't even dare to hope since admission rate for oos was so low at UNC. Thanks ThatMom! :-)

We're also oos and got the letter on Christmas Eve. I had been watching these boards and knew the letter was out. Even though everything says "You're in", it's hard to believe and we were still holding our breath when she checked on line for her status in January.

Congrats Emmeline and ldmom06 on your acceptances :) Especially with that OOS so low at UNC, it's such a great achievement.

Thanks ThatMom and Anoel! We'll be biting our nails until we get the actual letter too! But we are over the moon in the meantime. :-)

One of D's very best friends was accepted to Duke, along with two other kids from her little gang. She wanted to go somewhere 'on her own' and this would be the perfect situation...friends nearby for those homesick days, but plenty of opportunity to spread her wings.

Thanks Anoel! :) :)

My S told me that MIT hopefuls can learn of their fate online on Mac 18. Are debating whether to do so or to wait for the letter in the main, one way or the other ...

How do all of you guys stay so upbeat?
We are getting burned out with the waiting and the stress of this. Actually considering going ahead and accepting either ga tech or nyu so that we can move on and start the planning stage. I read somewhere on this site that others don't think the 30 days between acceptance and commitment is too short. They can't be the ones paying for it or worrying about where your kid is going to live. D applied to 3 schools, all oos so the expense and worry has us wishing she had planned to stay closer to home

beat, how can you NOT be upbeat? Your D is in to two great schools already. Easy for me to say, I know. I understand, given your screen name, that waiting on UNC is very stressful -- hopefully you can do some stuff that will have to be done no matter where your D goes (start shopping, etc.).

Some students really, truly don't have first choices. And for them, I can see how 30 days can seem like an awfully short time frame to make a decision between two (or more!) schools that they have come to love.

Out of curiousity, why no in-state options if the OOS situation is causing you such worry (granted, not many states are going to be able to match the same quality as NYU, GT or UNC)? Those choices themselves are intriguing because they seem so different.

Good luck.

I agree with Iderochi, many student would give their right arm to be admitted to both NYU and GT. Waiting the 3 weeks to hear from UNC isn't that long with two acceptances under her belt.

Assuming your daughter is going to live on campus, there really isn't a worry about housing; most schools don't assign dorm rooms until the summer anyway.

What do you need to plan for? You have plenty of time even if you wait until May 1 to make a decision. Sometimes if you have a child at one of the more remote LAC them hotel rooms book up fast, but in the cities you are looking at, you will not have that problem during move in day.

Give UNC the chance to send your daughter a letter before she makes he decision unless one of the other 2 schools is just what she wants.

Best of luck to your daughter!

She picked NYU because of the location and the excitement of being in NYC.
And great school. GT because her grandfather went there and she wanted to see if she could get in and UNC because it is her first choice.
I admire UNC's decision to stop ED just because of people like us. My d is still 17 and when we started this process was 16. Her choices have "matured". And our $ situation has changed. We as a family started the process thinking that the money was not an issue. We wanted her to go where she wanted to go. Then we realized that this is our first doing this. We still have 3 more to go! And can we do this for 4? After talking to parents that have done it for 3 or 4, the answer tends to be "are you crazy?"
And most have said that their kids adjusted fine to it whether it was 1, 2 or even 3 choice! So you wonder why we are beating ourselves up?
All 3 are fine choices and after typing this I think we have come to a decision.

Congratulation to beatduke's d, and welcome to beatduke.

My S was at the game last Saturday when UNC beatduke! We saw him on TV with the other Cameron Crazies............ tuition at Duke: High,
that experience: Priceless :)

PS. Some of us still hang out on this chatroom because we find out interesting things about our kids' choices after the fact! (We also have more kids that will be going through the college process some day.) Come on, you'll be hooked like the rest of us...It took many of us a long time to admit that we had a problem. You can probably do a search for cc addiction. :)
