Post away all!

Thank you TheaterMom, you beat me to it as I was just locking the earlier long thread and was going to start a Part Two and you already have. Great!

I hope people will still visit the first part which is long because it is so full of happy news. This is one time when it is really great to see an ACTIVE thread because it is the bearer of some really wonderful posts.

So, as we are in the midst of the climax to the college application process, let's hear everyone's news and share in the excitement as plans are made for these young people's futures.

I feel so proud that the thread I created has done so well!

-Officially waitlisted at UMich

I was thinking about suggesting to start a new thread! Now that we have a fresh start maybe we should all post our acceptances. It will be easier than navigating all 400 posts of the last thread!

I'll start... So far I've gotten into Baldwin-Wallace, Hartt, Point Park and Millikin

I finally heard from CMU, checked the site tonight.
College: CFA Dept: DRA Program: MTH Decision: Not Admitted
:(

My D is going for BFA Acting not MT but here goes...

Accepted to Tisch, Boston U., SMU, NC School of the Arts and Elon

Waitlisted to DePaul

No decisions yet, but between BU and SMU with Elon as a strong third contender due to good financial aid.

CaroMom, that is fantastic! WooHoo for your daughter!

My daughter has friends in the acting studios at Tisch who love it. She has a close friend who just got into the acting program at BU too. And then another very talented boy we know is at NC School of the Arts. I am not as up on SMU and Elon but the whole string of acceptances your daughter got involves some really great programs.

Susan

Boston Conservatory: ACCEPTED!

Hooray for all new acceptances! Fingers crossed - do you live near Boston? You're the first we've heard receiving any info....
Jesseeinstein - Hang in there....sorry to hear the news, everyone feels for you, knowing how much CMU meant to you...

We are still waiting to hear from Tisch and our mail already came today. I have seen that several people have gotten their acceptance letters to Tisch already and was wondering if perhaps they send out the acceptances first. I called their admissions office and they reassured me that they send them out randomly, but I was just wondering. Does anyone out there have any insights on this topic? Thanks so much!

Well, as you know my daughter was very disappointed in not getting into the only BFA program for which she auditioned and decided to pursue the BA in Theater Studies instead with a minor in dance.

Since my daughter is a legit soprano and has always scored Superiors at NATS, FVA, Florida Federation and other vocal competitions, in addition to being a soloist with a regional opera company, she decided it would be a good idea to audition for the music department at this school in the event things with theater didn't work out. When she got the BFA callback, and then was rejected and she decided on the BA, we didn't give the music department another thought since we hadn't heard from them yet.

Well, as things will have it, in the mail today came a big envelope from the Music Department offering her a scholarship in Music Performance in Voice. Now she doesn't know what to do. The vocal performance major will allow her private voice lessons and work in ensembles, and she could still minor in dance.

I know a lot of successful musical theater people who have majored in voice in college vs. theater, but she still doesn't know what to do. To make matters even more confusing for her, the opera company asked her to do two performances this spring.....one a Rogers and Hammerstein concert where they asked her to play Cinderella, and another concert in June with the symphony.

The stress just keeps coming..........

Congratulations to you and your D, Midgetmom!! How exciting! I don't know if I can really offer too much specific advice to you, considering I never really looked into a major in vocal performance or theatre studies. But I do have friends planning to major in vocal performace (and many who already are!) and though I don't know what school you are speaking of, generally speaking, voice majors can also take acting classes!? So with a major in voice, given some acting options, and a minor in dance, sounds pretty good doesn't it? Just a thought. Congrats again!

ps... I'm still waiting for my CMU decision to be posted online. Anyone else?

juuuuuuuuuust kidding about the last part of my last comment, well sort of. It's still not posted online but my letter just came. yow. So glad this is all finally OVER! This is everything:

Accepted: CCM, BoCo, UArts, Baldwin Wallace, Point Park
Rejected: Otterbein, Syracuse
Waitlisted: UMich, CMU ("priority")

and scene.

Hi, I am new member. My mother is already a member. first off, I would like to know what the actual ranking is for the MT programs. I hear that #1 CCM, #2 CMU, # 4 NYU and so on.. Does anyone know if there is an actual list or not. If not what have you all heard the ranking is.

Accepted: FSU, UCF, and CCM so far
Rejected: CMU and Boston Cons.

Still don't know if college is happening though, because a month or so ago I auditioned for the 25th Anniversary National Tour of CATS, and I made it through all of the cuts and callbacks, and am just waiting on a phone call for a part or not.

infoboy-

the "rankings" all depend on what you want, really. In my opinion, I'd put CMU MT at the top of the list b/c the musical theatre program encompasses what is arguably the top acting probram in the country (ok-tied for top with juilliard). Places like BOCO and CCM are probably next, only because their acting programs aren't as strong as CMU's. But this is from someone who believes that acting is the most important thing to a musical theatre performer...

My daughter got into Boston Conservatory today.

Broadway32nd...you have done so well! My daughter has not heard from CMU yet!
Susan

Way to go on those of you who have new acceptances today! Such incredible talent abounds on this site!! Congrats!

lynnm, I live about 3 hours away from Boston, but it seems as though other people are now hearing as well.

Accepted: OCU, BoCo, Hartt, Buffalo, Wagner
Rejected: CCM
Waitlisted: Baldwin-Wallace, Syracuse

Still waiting for Emerson, we had some transcript issues, so I may not hear for another week or so.

I just about gave up on checking the CMU website as it never indicated that my daughter's letter was even mailed as of a few hours ago. So, now that I told my daughter she has to go to sleep, I thought I would check the webpage once more before I went to sleep and voila...finally it says it was mailed and at the same time, it also had the decision.

She was not admitted for BFA in MT but is waitlisted for the BFA in Acting.

Quite an accomplishment Susan!! And your D being the one with the most training in singing and dancing- it must feel great to have affirmation from such a prestigious university of her acting abilities. Not bad, not bad at all.
