I can't confirm this, but I have a friend who auditioned for CMU and says they are sending out their letters next Monday, but have already started sending out rejection letters. As I said, this is second hand knowledge, I would call them to find out when the letters are coming if the waiting is getting to you.

Yes I heard from a pretty reliable source today that letters were going out on Monday for CMU.

Congrats on your acceptance to UCLA Musical Theatre...my son Eric Andrew did not get in...he is devastated and is going to call tomorrow to attempt to get on a wait list.

Keep us posted if you hear of anyone else getting in...we're hoping there will be at least one boy who decides to go elsewhere (they applied all over like everyone else).

UCLA was my son's #1 and only choice...it has always been his dream to go there, so he was very disappointed. What day did you audition? He was there on MLK day, and I think I met Tara's mom.

Congrats again...keep us posted and let me know what you think of him getting on a wait list!

mtlvrmom,
It's so hard when so much seems to be riding on one option. Although there may still be some options for your son via programs with rolling admission / non-audition, please remaind him that even if he doesn't pursue undergrad degree in MT, there's always grad school. I know a very talented actor who is in NYU Steinhart who entered after working in business for several years. He noted that the program has appreciated that he brings a different perspective and depth to his characters. Hugs to you both. good luck!

mtlvrmom: I really feel for your son, and I so hope they will offer him a waitlist spot!

We were there on 1/23 and the acting and MT students were auditioned separately; hers was just an interview since she wanted the Design & Production sequence and had a tech portfolio. (And on a side note, her name isn't Tara but I didn't realize it might sound that way when I picked my username, lol.)

The kicker is, D absolutely does not wish to go to UCLA, so I would LOVE to give someone else her spot who DOES really want to be there. (I don't know if her being female or being in another sequence affects your son's chances.) Why she applied in the first place is another story of its own. I understand it's not the best fit for someone like her, but...good grief to be able to put THAT program on her resume for the little money it will cost us......well I am going to need a bit of short-term therapy after turning them down......:(

Keep us posted on how things turn out for him!

D has accepted BFA MT program at Illinois Wesleyan. It is so exciting to be done.

Congratulations fosselover-relax now and take a deep breath!

It's wonderful to read all these messages about the decisions. It sure is hard to wait! My son was admitted ED to Emerson, to Hartt and the University of Tampa a while ago,and just got a rejection notice from CCM. The only ones we're waiting for now are CMU, Boston Conservatory, and Tisch. If anyone hears from these, I'd love to know.

jerrylaurie, I think Emerson is EA, not ED, right? Otherwise he wouldn't have been able to await all of those other decisions. :)

I called CCM last Thursday and they told me that I had already been looked at, that they'd be sending the letter on Friday, and that I should get it on Monday or Tuesday. I think that the mail must just be really slow-I haven't recieved anything all week. Should I call them? I can't find out my stats online since I'm in Canada. Any advice?

jesseeinstein-

I'd give it until Friday and then call. It may be that the letter did not get out on Friday as they said it would. I also know you are in Canada and I don't know how that affects the time it takes to get to you.

fosselover,

I'm envious because my son was accepted at IWU and that's his top choice, but the difference in cost between there and U of Arizona is nearly $18,000 after scholarships are considered. I know that's less than NYU and UMich for out-of-staters and CMU and others, but I'm hoping he'll be happy at UA. It has a good reputation and he says the people were friendly.

He went up to see IWU's production of Chicago and thought it was excellent. UA wants an acceptance by April 4th, before their production of Rocky Horror Picture Show previewing April 8th, and they did not agree to extend the offer past their initial date so that we could see their production before deciding.

Emerson is Early Action, not Early Decision.

My typo.

CATO-

We have been told many times by other colleges and our HS CCRC -that it it is nearly ''illegal"/unethical for a school to require a firm college choice/commitment from an applicant before May 1, if you go regular decision. They really should not require that April date- the May 1 date is an honor code among colleges.

Early Commitment
I had also heard that colleges couldn't pressure you to accept before May 1, but where is that "regulation?" We have had two schools give us early deadlines. When one is a good choice and a safety school, what can you do if you want to see if your reach school comes through?

I am a current Music Theatre major at OCU, and I can assure you that it is rare to find a conservative student at OCU. There are a few, but the majority are very liberal. The OCU Administration however, they are conservative. But as for students, no. Conservative is not the word. If anyone has any questions about OCU, feel free to email me. I'd be happy to answer any questions :)

ILMOMSK,

You may be right, but when they hold the cards, I don't want to make waves.

But thanks for the input.

cato,
Thanks. D got a very nice scholarhip at IWU, but it is still pricey. All of the schools she was interested in had similar costs, so we will figure it all out. She wasn't interested in any of the large schools like UA or Univ. of Mich or any UC program. I think after going to a high school with 3800 students she wanted a program where classes would have fewer than 40 students (Even the AP classes have 40). She has worked so hard for this academically and in all of her additional classes. Loans will have to make up the difference between scholarships and costs. This summer she isn't working because we agreed to her going to World Jazz Congress and Camp Bravo, but she will probably get some part time work teaching dance. Hopefully, in future summers she will get some summer stock work to help with expenses. Dad and I are happy for her and believe this is where she belongs, so we will find a way. PLUS loans do help.

Is there anyone else out there who hasn't had anything positive yet from audition schools?

I'm delighted with all the good news being posted, but my D has only received rejections to date (one deferral) and an acceptance from a BFA MT program without an audition. She's still waiting to hear from 5 schools. Anyone else in this situation?

newmtmom, What a lot of tension and disappointment. For your daughter, "good luck...i'll keep my fingers crossed. But, enjoy your acceptance. This is all about learning, and you can learn just as much from a non-audition program. This doesn't reflect upon talent or likelihood of eventual success." I know it's so hard for us parents to see our children suffer these hard knocks. I know I didn't answer your question, but my son went through this application/audition process last year.
