College acceptances

newmtmom - We too have only 1 non audition acceptance under our belt, a no from ccm and still waiting for the others. You are not alone!

got a no from ccm today-now all my hopes are on my top choice schoool(CMU). I had a muc better audition there so crosses fingers Wednesday yes?

newmtmom, catsmom and jesseeinstein,
where all did you/your child apply? I'm just wondering because although my D is accepted to 2 programs, she got rejections from some schools right away while other ppl report still no word. I would think that they knew right away that they didn't need her "type" or that she didn't "fit" the school. I think it COULD mean that you or your child is still in the running, don't ya think?

I called NYU and CMU to find out about offer letters.

NYU said they'll send everything out so it will arrive right about April 1.

CMU said they're mailing letters next week but usually it takes people until the next week to actually receive them.

I didn't call Boston Conservatory.

I too just received my rejection from CCM. Any rejection is disapointing, but I wasn't heartbroken because I really don't think it was a good fit for me and don't think I would have gone if accepted. Oh well, 6 down, 4 to go!

fingers_crossed, I felt the same way when I got my CCM rejection on Tuesday. I saw the thin envelope on the table and I was like, "Oh look! A rejection letter!"

Good luck to everyone else waiting for responses like I am!

In regards to CMU and NYU letters-

3 days after the CMU mailing you can check online with your Bio ID to see if you were accepted. Check on the 24th if nothing has come in the mail by then. My S found out online before his letter came because we are in California, (2 years ago).

NYU was the last program my S heard from a couple years ago and it was April 1. Some of his friends had gotten likely letters though, (sometime early in March I think) so they pretty much knew in advance that they were going to be accepted).

Re. what mama02girlz posted -- my D has one school from which she's heard nothing, while other kids have heard one way or the other. So I've indeed been thinking that the school accepted someone of her "type" and are waiting for that person's decision before notifying my D. Of course, her letter might have been lost in the mail! So far she hasn't She still has towanted to call to check on the status of her application.

She's waiting to hear from 3 other schools as well, but all of those make their decisions only after all the auditions are over, and told us everyone would be notified late March-April 1.

yikes. I don't know what happened to the end of that first paragraph! That sentence was supposed to read: So far she hasn't wanted to call to check on the status of her application.

actor465, yea I knew what the competition was, being realistic about certain schools makes rejection a lot easier, plus I knew that it wouldn't totally have been the place for me anyways, as amazing and fabulous as it is.

Thanks for all the support. So the irony is that I posted that this morning, and today my D got a thin letter from American saying that she was accepted into their musical theatre program! But she still hasn't been accepted by the university itself, although I'm not worried on that score. I realize what a good actress she really is--she's acted very cool, calm and collected about her rejections and the lack of response, but upon reading this acceptance, it became clear to me how much she has been playing a role. So now we can wait a little more calmly.

So I will add my voice now to those of you who haven't had any positive news yet--remember that this is, to a great extent, an arbitrary process. For every person accepted, there are a dozen other people equally as good. If it's in your blood to do this, you'll find a way to study and pursue it. I genuinely believe that, and although I know little about theatre, my life has been in the arts, so I know something about this. So good luck to all our kids!

Any more word on Soozievt's D?

Hey everyone,
I haven't posted here in a while, as I decided not pursue a BFA MT myself, but my best friend, who is like a sister to me, just found out today that she was accepted into Otterbein's musical theater program, and I just had to share this with some people who would know what an accomplishment this is! Today has been extremely exciting, as it was our opening night for our musical, "The Sound of Music". My friend, Liz, is Maria, so I think she got a boost of confidence for her performance tonight with this news. She was also accepted to Univeristy of the Arts, and is wating to hear from Emerson, where I would love her to go as I really want to attend Boston University! Anyway, I just had to share with someone other than my mother. She is am amazing person, so I'm exciting that good things are happening for her. If anyone else has heard from Otterbein, I would love to know so I can tell her who she might be going to school with.

Congrats to everyone on their acceptances. It is so much fun to remember reading all of the posts last year about preparing audition materials and getting into summer programs, and then to read the posts now of where everyone will be attending. Hard work really does pay off and you all should be so proud!

Amanda

Yeah I saw the letter and was told by a friend that got in that he got a thin acceptance so I really didn't know. I really want CMU though so I'm hoping! Fingers_crosses, where have you applied?
I applied for:
-UMICH(Didnt get an audition)
-NYU(There was a screw up, and it's too late to fix it no they said... my auditor talked to me and was tryig to help me, so I think that based on the audition I got in-too bad I can't get in now. It sucks)
-CCM(rejected today)
-CMU(My first choice BY FAR!)
-Ithaca(dunno if it would be a great fit for me)
-Syracuse
-BOCO

I thought Otterbein letters were going out on Monday. Did she get a letter or a phone call? I gather your friend is in Ohio? Maybe the letters went out early???????????

She got a phone call, since she was already accepted academically to the school. Also, we live about 15 minutes away from Otterbein, so she'll probablybe getting a letter rather quickly.

A friend of mine also received an acceptance call from Otterbein for acting. I assume they probably called everyone who was accepted. Why do schools do this????

I think they only accept a very small number, so they CAN call everyone accepted! I think it's a nice touch. Also, they probably want to get a definite "Yes" or "no" in case they need to accept someone who was "on the fence".

You bet Otterbein accepts a very small number -- 4 girls, 4 guys for MT, same for acting!

I got a phone call from Catherine McNeela at Elon, as well. I was wondering why they did it that way... but I like it because it makes you feel extra special! :)

I think its a nice personal touch. Plus, when they accept so few people, they are really trying to entice everyone to come to their school, so I guess every little thing counts.
