College acceptances

My friend Ashley got an acceptance letter from CCM yesterday. She is definitely attending CCM, and if anyone on the board would like her email address to talk to her (if you also are going...) I know she would like to hear from you. Email me at greyhoundtoNYC@yahoo.com.

For all those waiting to hear from Otterbein -- I don't know anything one way or the other about the calls, but Doctorjohn said in a 3/16 post on the Otterbein thread that letters will go out Monday afternoon, 3/21.

Accepted at UCLA Theatre (I auditioned for MT, assume that is what I got into although it does not state MT) and accepted to U of A MT program. Anyone know ow many get accepted into UCLA MT and their thoughts on the program?

I actually looked through all our CMU papers for the log-in and we didn't have it.

DARN!

what log-in jerrylaurie?

Apparently students are given a log-in ID number by CMU on one of the communications they send during the application process. This number can be used to check the admissions status and heaven knows what else. We couldn't find a letter with the information.

Another person on this Board knows much more about it than me. The post that person sent was on 3/17 at 6:33 p.m.; the id was WCT.

I guess that ID won't be helping us!

Laurie

oh yeah-I've got that, there should be an e-mail with it too I think... good luck!

UCLA Musical theatre is an excellent program, but as you know, you won't be allowed to do any musical productions for 2 years. Alot of people don't agree with this philosophy, but to each its own.

The only thing negative about the program is the cost...its substantially more than regular UC tuition, which went up 30% last year and is scheduled to go up more next year. We were surprized to find out that MT costs $4,000 more than regular tuition per quarter (3 quarters). Its classified in with nursing, dental, medical and law schools at UCLA.

mtlvrmom, Do you have a child that is in the program or got accepted at UCLA? If so, how do they like the program? How many students are in the program?

I know the program well; my friend works for UCLA. The MT program is small - only 14-17 students. Its very intense, but a well-respected program.

Hey to be honest about UCLA...I have two best friends in the program right now. They said the program has really changed since a bunch of their key faculty was fired a year ors os ago. they are no longer happy. But i am sure there are people who are. I honestly just thnk it depends on what u want out of school. and unlike you guys i have received NO LETTERs
ahhh the waiting is terrible. But ill end up where i'm supposed to be. But i did hear most CCM acceptances came in email form? Anyone receive justa letter and no email? Thanks

For anyone waiting on results from Hartt... According to admissions the letters are all done and are dated March 18th and should go out this week.

about UCLA

cadget03 - Why were the faculty fired from UCLA? What is it your friends don't like about the program?

mtlvrmom - Is that $4,000 extra only for MT or all theatre students?

my s is considering UCLA for tech theatre. Anyone know anything about their tech program?

cadget03--
In our case the theatre professor emailed saying he was recommending acceptance and about a week-10 days later a letter came in the mail. But I don't know if that's typical--this wasn't for MT.

Good luck, I know the waiting is unendurable for many here.

Not much of a program anymore for Musical Theatre at UCLA

Anyone have any insight into the 2 musical thatre programs? my son needs to decide between these 2

Seems like Steinhardt costs more...which would be an issue for me. Also, check to see how many kids are accepted at each program. I'd be more interested in the smaller program...more individual attention and more opportunity for performing. I believe, too, that Miami is a little more 'academic'...if that is important to your son. Good Luck!

Marbare
Which program at Miami did he audition for?
Has he visited and researched both places?

I just got a likely letter from Tisch for the dramatic writing program !! Yay : ]

I polled S and and friend. Steinhardt won hands down. However, NYC and Miami are very different. I suggest first comparing the two curriculums taking careful note of the required classes, available classes, a visit so your S can compare the environments as you can as well. If cost is not an issue, that is about as good as it gets in making a choice. With NYC being the capital of MT, I would prefer Steinhardt, but for an 18 year old, it is very important that he likes the environment. My son had some issues with environments of several top MT schools, though he loved the curriculum. This is a very personal issue. I know one young lady who is going to be going to a MT school where she really is not as happy about the school, location, etc, but the curriculum is exactly what she wants, and that for her was them main thing, though she got into some school that fit her better without an MT program. In your S's case, as both schools have the curriculum, he can hone into more specifics and if there is no preference, then he can weigh the environment into the equation.

Congratulations to him for having such wonderful choices!
