College acceptances

Klri, I have to take exception to one thing you wrote: "It is just the fit was not there. . . ." The fact is, when programs are taking somewhere between 2-10% of their applicants, they are rejecting plenty of applicants who would fit just fine. They have no choice. When I submit slides of my work to competitions (I'm a painter) or to galleries, if my work is accepted, it's because my work is superb(!) When I'm rejected, I put on my rhinoceros skin, sulk for a day, and remind myself that the rejection has nothing to do with the quality of my work, but is a reflection of the size of the gallery. And when I am in a show, at some point when I'm looking at my work hanging, with humility, I remind myself that there are dozens of other artists who could easily be there instead of me--and that I had some good luck.

So Broadway32nd, give yourself some time to feel bad--it's natural, and then move on; all those acceptances are worth far more than the rejection.

mtfan-
I spoke to the folks at Hartt last week and they said the letters are dated on the 18th, and would be received this week or early next week. They were still working on scholarship amounts for those who were being accepted. I got the impression that all the letters would go out together, so although they were waiting on info for accepted students, rejected ones were being held so they could all be mailed together.

thanks mama02girlz!

On UCLA, the MT program is excellent. I spent some time with current students and some believe there were good reason for those teachers to leave. MANY love the new faculty. UCLA has a huge advantage for exposure to TV. Barbara Streisand said she would have had to play Funny Girl on Broadwy until she was 50 to reach as many viewers as she did in one live performance on TV. The connections that UCLA has in all fields of acting is uncomparable. For the mom who wrote her s was accepted to Miami, NYU and UCLA, I suggest him going to UCLA, sitting in classes, and talking to students. Students who were accepted to both NYU and Miami though and visited them, thought UCLA won hands down!

Accepted to Hartt! With a decent talent scholarship as well.

I actaully don't know a ton about this program, but will probably pay it a visit in April to get a feel for it. Any opinions on the program?

CONGRATS to fingers_crossed!!

fingers_crossed-

Cngrats about HARTT! I know a girl who is a junior this year in the MT program and is very happy. The program hasn't been around as long as some of the other programs that have been discussed on this board but I have never heard anything negative about the program.

My son was offered admission to Hartt several months ago, as well as to Emerson. He's waiting for three more decisions.

We're asking him to give all the schools a thorough look. My husband was very impressed when he looked at the faculty's credentials at Hartt.

The staff seems extremely friendly and helpful, and from what I understand, they're trying to build up their program. I think Jake is going to go visit on April 10 or so.

Maybe our kids will both end up there.....

Laurie

Thanks guys!

jerrylaurie, The faculty certainly were very friendly at my audition, and it does seem like a newer program that is still building. I'll probabaly be visiting around the same time. I'm actaully the student, not the parent, but maybe me and your son will end up at school together. I'm still waiting to hear from Emerson, right now does your son have a favorite out of the two?

I would say he's leaning slightly toward Emerson, but part of that is because we live near Boston. I think you should hear from Emerson very shortly. the students seem to love it there, but I think the students at Hartt are happy as well.

I think we're going to rent a hotel the nights of 4/10 and 4/11 so he can go to all the classes on both days.

How far do you live from Hartt?

Laurie (Jake's mom)

I live about 2 hours away, in upstate NY. I think it's the closest school I applied to. I love Emerson as a school, but I wasn't wowed by the program, plus I didn't have my best audition there, but we'll wait and see what happens. Emerson said at my audition that we would hear around April 1, and probably not before, but that's only a week away so I think I can handle the wait.

Fingerscrossed, I am so proud of you and I am not even YOUR mom! I am rooting for all the kids on CC...I feel like you are such a talented bunch of great kids (or parents of them) and so it is like I want you all to get into a place where you can be happy (and there is more than one place that can fit THAT bill).

I have not been participating much on here due to my D's circumstances but if you want an update on that front, check my update thread on the Parent Forum on CC that I wrote last night. My D is home from the hospital so it is a positive step to her ultimate recovery. Luckily this dreadful experience has been tempered by an outpouring of love from near and far, plus some positive news on the college acceptance front, though we are still waiting for a few decisions to come out.

Today's happy news is that she was sent a letter from NYU/Tisch that she was selected as one of about 15 University Scholars at Tisch (she had recently gotten the invitation to Saturday in the Square so knew she would be accepted from that news a few days ago but did not know about this Honors College thing she got today). She feels honored and it is nice to have a happy moment among this ordeal. She is on bed rest for ten more days after ten in the hospital and then will be further onto her road to full recovery in time to grace the stage and pursue college in the fall.

Love to all who have extended themselves to us and I hope to get back to each of you eventually.

Susan

Susan,
Wow! Great news, that is a remarkable achievement that go out to very few!
I am so pleased for your family and so excited that she is HOME! All the best wishes for a healthy spring!

Susan, thanks for your congratulations! It's wonderful to hear that your daughter is on the path to recovery, she's been in all of our thoughts. And such wonderful news from such a wonderful school must really be lifting her spirits. Send her everyone on CC's congratulations!

Great news Susan and fingers crossed!!!! Congratulations!

Congrat's to everyone getting positive news. My MT son is a junior, and I'm watching all of your news closely this year in anticipation for next year for us.

Susie, double congrat's on your daughter's news after the ordeal she has been through. I'm so glad she is going to be okay. Car wrecks are one of my biggest fears as a parent! I always wait up until everyone is home safely at night - sort of paranoid. My older son (who is now 21 and about to graduate from college!) had a minor wreck at about age 18, and we were so fortunate he wasn't hurt. It made me start carrying my cell phone everywhere! He is graduating from Univ. of Ark. and is in business - very different from Eric who isn't looking in state.

OK, so checked my carnegie mellon status today and it is blank in the decision cateogr what does that mean? Nothing? Unless ia m reading incorrectly havent people heard no online? I dunno, help me out?
thanks

cadget03-

It just means your decision hasn't been posted yet. It looks like you are waiting like a lot of other people. I had hoped all those of you waiting on CMU would have heard something by today. It appears it is going to be a longer wait than I had thought.

I don't know if this means anything..... but the CMU thread under CC Top Universities started lighting up because online decisions were up tonight (after 10:00 pm pacific time) and several people were posting acceptances/waitlist/rejections.

I called Hartt (U hartford) last week and asked about decisions on addiitonal performing arts scholarships. We had received a letter about two months before saying those decisions would be made early March.
The rep at Hartt said last Friday that a packet was coming to us. I asked her if we'd be pleased and she said we'd be very pleased.
We got an envelope yesterday and all it had were the admission acceptance forms. I was so disappointed. Why would she have said that if that was all we were going to get?
