Jerrylaurie,
I can't imagine why the admissions people would have told you that - My daughter is a junior MT at Hartt and had been accepted EA. I went back and looked thru her paperwork. She received a letter dated March 21, 2002 from the dean of the Hartt school stating that during the Mid-March scholarship review her initial scholarship had been increased. So if they are doing it the same way this year, expect a letter from the Dean not admissions.

Soozievt:
Great news!!! So good to hear your daughter is home and how wonderful to have such good news to help brighten her spirits as she recovers! Best wishes are sent your way!!!

Congrats to everyone else and good luck to those still waiting!

The letter we got was on December 20. It offered him admission and an ok performing arts scholarship. It also said they would review all applications in early March for final and possibly additional performing arts awards. It was from the Dean of Admissions, Richard Zeiser.

Does your daughter like the school? It's going to be such a tough decision, and unfortunately, the amount of aid we receive amy play a role in the outcome.

There has been much confusion and conflicting information regarding when decisions would be mailed out. I had been told by the admissions office a while ago that letters were going out March 21. As you can see on the CMU forum, some letters have gone out and some have not (from CMU in general, not talking fine arts). Some have decisions online already for other areas of the college. Some are posting that their webpage says if a decision has been mailed. My daughter is an applicant to musical theater and there is nothing on her webpage about the mailing or decision. I know MTPop posted that his son was notified of a rejection so maybe some decisions went out, I have no idea (have not heard of acceptances from anyone online or in real time yet).

I just called to inquire when my D's letter was or will be mailed and I was told that a decision has not been reached yet and that the prediction is that her letter would not be mailed until the END OF NEXT WEEK. I asked if that was a date given officially but he said, no, just a prediction. He said that this was the case for fine arts applicants (the ones who auditioned) as they are reviewing auditions and applications, so it was not just about my child's case but overall. I am posting this information for all of you guys who auditioned for BFA programs at CMU who are waiting on these decisions.

Hang tight.....don't bother checking the mailbox for this one for a while!

And good luck.....
Susan
PS, while this person predicted mailings going out at the end of next week, he added that decisions from CMU can go out as late as April 15!

THANKS for the WONDERFUL vibes being sent my daughter's way during her recovery!

My daughter also received her initial acceptance letter in Dec (dated December 19) and then received the second letter that her scholarship had been increased during the mid-March review.

Yes, my daughter is very happy at Hartt. It's hard to believe that she is about to finish up her junior year. Seems like only yesterday that we were going thru this whole process.

I called about a possible missing letter and I was right. The admissions office was again wonderful and said that another person had a similar experience. They're checking into why it happened, but it is quite possible the letters were sent out separately.

So if you're waiting for something from U. Hartford, assume it might take a few more days.

I am very happy to post that one of my students, (a production and design student) just called to say she has been accepted to CMU! She did a portfolio review not an audition. I have heard nothing from my acting/MT students as of yet. They are all still waiting.

I talked to CMU and they said my son's letter is going out Monday. They also said that the online information isn't available until about four days after the letter goes out.

I have a friend who was accepted to Ithaca for MT at the beginning of the month. I don't know if they have rolling admissions or if they let everyone know at once.

As for Webster, I know they are having more auditions today and tomorrow and then I think they are done.

I'm new to this board but have been reading with interest all of the posts with regard to college acceptances and BFA programs.

So much emphasis has been placed on these acceptances. I haven't heard anybody say anything about being accepted into a BA program with a major in musical theater and been happy with it. My dd, auditioned for one BFA program, despite my almost begging her to audition elsewhere. She loved the school, was given a sizable merit scholarship, the location was wonderful and the "fit" was made to size.

Unfortunately, she didn't get in despite a great audition, interview, references, GPA, test scores, etc. She decided to accept their offer for the BA program and is very happy about it, but reading everybody's posts has been discouraging for both she and I. It seems if you didn't make the small percentage of acceptances, you "didn't make it".

I'd love to hear what others have to say about this. In retrospect, I realize my child would not have been happy in a BFA program. She has always wanted an "education" and loves learning, although her first love is musical theater and she's good at it.

so far i am in at roosevelt and hartt for mt, and rutgers and emerson for ba directing. i was rejected at minnesota and lipa. still waiting for tisch, cmu, boston u and rutgers bfa.

does anyone know why some of these schools are taking so dang long? is there a good reason for taking almost two months? juilliard probly auditions more kids than ANYBODY and they sent out acceptances WEEKS ago. it almost makes me want to take what i have and tell the slowpokes to bite me.

Midgetmom-
Welcome!!! I think you're going to get lots of feedback on this one. If the main objective of your child is to perform on the Broadway stage (most MT students have this as at least part of their long-term goal) then there are many ways to get there! By just reading the bio sheet on any program it becomes obvious that people come from so many different backgrounds. There has been much talk on this site in the past about the variety of education and training of MT and other performers.
As far as being happy with a BA program, I think it boils down to what the student needs at the time he/she is ready to head off to college. I think most posters on here are very anxious to concentrate specifically on MT, so it is disappointing when not getting into a BFA program means a BA program where more time will be spent on general studies.
Recently I posted about my Ds search, and finding the right college for her. It was truly a revelation to realize that some of the most talked about schools were not the right fit for her. It was only through this whole audition process that she (and I) realized what it appears your daughter already knows. Finding a program that is a good fit is the most important part of this whole process-NOT getting into the best program you can without considering how the program fits.
It sounds to me that your D will go off to college, have a fantastic time at a place she absolutely loves, while gaining valuable experience. (And isn't that what it's REALLY all about?) Congratulations to you both on her acceptance and feel great about the fact that she will be learning AND happy! If she is truly passionate about this business, nothing will stop her, and her name and headshot will be the one we all see in the Broadway program with BA after it.

That's wonderful news!! My son Jake was offered admission in December and is waiting to hear about performing arts awards. I can't wait for the mail today!

My husband and I think the school is a real gem. The people who work there are wonderful to work with.

I didn't think the mail would be coming today either, but I was just about to leave and there was the mail along with the big envelope. Even though I've been accepted other places, that was the first big envelope I've gotten, It was really exciting!

i havent received my hartt letter yet....i live in the midwest..could that be part of it??????? I'm getting scared that my letter may be lost in the mail. It seems like this process never ends...haha.....but its gd to look forward to something.
