College acceptances

MT Scorpion, congrats on your achievements. I have a daughter who also got into Ithaca for MT and got what you got from NYU.

Here is what I know of the NYU thing. She got the invitation for Saturday in the Square for Tisch students...if you got that, from what I know, it means you will be accepted when the letters come out on April 1. Not only have many on the "inside" confirmed that, but it makes logical sense...why would they invite you for an event for admitted students that takes place after April 1, if you were not going to be accepted on April 1? My understanding is that this invite goes out to selected students that they will be admitting (in other words, more students are admitted than will get this invite), with hopes of attracting them to matriculate at NYU. It is also akin to a "likely letter" that other colleges sometimes send to the top of their admit pile, letting them know "early".

Then she got the University Scholar from Tisch like you did. The way that was worded made it clear you guys were among admitted students. It said that approx. 15 admitted students were selected as University Scholars, so that implies you are admitted! There are special events during Saturday in the Square for this small set of students. What it did not say is whether any merit scholarship comes with this selection (would love to know!). As well, you guys do not know which studio you were admitted to (Cap21 or another one). So, that is what I know about that.

In any case, I certainly could not advise you which program to be leaning toward because that is a very individual choice as to which one really fits what you are looking for in a college and in a BFA in MT program. Thankfully, both have many positive aspects! But only you can know which suits your needs and interests best. You can't exactly go wrong in terms of quality but it is more about the fit with you than anything else now. Congrats and good luck.

mt scorpion- did your friends get in to CMU? Rejected? Waitlisted? If they did get in, which programs were they admitted to?
-Jesse

jesse, one of them was accepted to the directing program of all things (that actually happened to one of my friends 2 years ago too), others havn't heard anything, and one was rejected before the one who was accepted got their letter for directing.. whatever CMU is doing.. i don't think they're doing it in any particular order!! hope that helped!

Thanks! I hope that this admissions oddyssey ends well for me pertaining to CMU!

As we go into this final week of March and approach April 1st, let me sincerely congratulate everyone on this forum. You should all take a moment to feel good about everything you have done. So many of you have worked so hard - not just applications, sats and essays, but also training, auditioning, researching, etc.. and encouraging others along the way.
I believe most of you have already been accepted at a college(s). How exciting that they want you!!!!! If you are unsure, or it doesn't turn out exactly as you planned or hoped - I know you will succeed.
Why? because it takes A LOT of dedication, focus, determination and love to come this far AND mt theatre people are a unique breed, they are SURVIVORS.

So let me applaud each and everyone of you and I wish you the best in all your future endeavors!
Sincerely,
studio7

Catsmom!!! Hoooray!! My D talked to your D and knew about Roosevelt. I'll have to tell her about Hartt! Great for you guys!

Catsmom - Congratulations!!! Hooray! My D talked to your D and knew about Roosevelt, but I'll have to tell her about Hartt!

Studio7, That is a very thoughtful post from someone whose child has been through it. I think all of us in this batch of seniors (and their parents) really really appreciate the efforts, information, and support that the parents and kids who have been through it before us have so generously offered to us.

Also, like you, I am really happy that most of the regular posters on here have at least one school to go to next year and I think in the end, all will be happy and all will have found a place to flourish and grow and pursue their passion in this field. While the process is anxiety-ridden at times, I just knew it all would work out in the end for the kids in some fashion. The next week should hopefully bring more of the decisions and then the fun of making a final choice and looking forward to "tomorrow".

Susan

Thank you so much! I think I can speak for everyone when I say we all appreciate your kind words.

Thank you so very much for your kind words. Being new on this forum and reading all the posts I was very excited about the outcome for everybody. My daughter chose to audition for one school for the BFA for a number of reasons and when she was rejected she went through a difficult time, as did I. I was angry and bitter that she didn't have the foresight to audition at a number of schools and would never be given the opportunity to succeed in this busines, nor find out if she would have been accepted elsewhere. But, I let her make the decision. She had to be the one auditioning. There was only so much I could do. However, after re-reading her rejection letter, which was full of wonderful comments about my daughter and them wanting her to pursue the BA, along with speaking with the BA coordinator, I feel it is all for the best and my dd knew all along what she wanted and where she would be the most comfortable. We are very much at peace now with her decision and know in our hearts it was the best decision and one that will make her happy. Hard work and determination will only get you so far. Without being truly happy in what you're doing, you're destined to fail, no matter how talented. My only real complaint is that I've found that parents whose children were accepted into the BFA at whatever school, feel that the BA students are the "leftovers". That an offer for the BA vs. the BFA was a "consolation prize". I so wish that the BFA's would understand that not being accepted into a BFA program, or actually WANTING the BA, doesn't make a student less passionate about this business. My dd plans on continuing her voice and dance lessons outside of the department. In this respect, you could almost say that she will be MORE DEDICATED than some of the BFA's because she'll have to truly work at what she wants, rather than have it all handed to her easily.

God bless everybody whose dreams are about to take off. My congratulations to all no matter what you decide to pursue. Just be happy.

ok.....it was a beautiful sunny day where I live....I was looking forward to checking the mailbox all day.....I go to the mailbox and see nothing but packages and brochures from colleges i have been accepted too....Nothing from Hartt!....I'm goin nuts..haha...is it possible to not have gotten a letter yet....was the letter sent priority or regular mail? I'm not crazy I promise...I just need to know....I am leaving for nyc on Thursday (I'm performing in the Lincoln Center)....and I would love to have one great acceptance before I leave...to give me an extra push....can anyone help? Thanks!

Congrats to your daughter on all her achievements. I was just wondering if she's been rejected from any of her colleges and, if so, how she felt about it after getting so much positive news. Also, God bless for a complete recovery.

Ariya,
My D got her letter on Saturday. She was rejected-not a biggie though because she had already decided that it was not for her, but she wanted to be accepted anyway, so she was sad. I have a theory...you are going to be accepted, and your letter (unlike my D's) is one of the fat ones that got messed up in the machine. Those bigger envelopes often do! Well, that's what I'm hoping for you, and I'll say a prayer for you that you get accepted. Keep thinking positive thoughts!

Ariya what are you singing in at Licoln center ? i live near the city would love to know ...

I will be performing with my concert choir...and have a solo for AGNEAU dE DIEU a french piece
