Got my Buffalo letter today. I got waitlisted for the MT program. It says there is a waitlist of 10 people. Its ok though. It was def not my first choice. I have a friend that got her letter today from OCU and got in and another friend that got waitlisted from Baldwin-Wallce. Here we go everyone. The fun is beginning I guess.

Now that letters are starting to come in I hope everyone posts where they are getting in. I remeber last year n the old thread there was a list of schools with posters names next to them who had gotten in. I think this would be a nice thing to do, If anyone wants to start it? I could even start it? what do u all think?

Did your letter say how they use the wait list? Were you given a "place" on the list.

Good luck. It will all work out.

Now, I will throw my hat into the acceptance ring. My daughter has just been admitted into her 2nd MT program--PSU! We are flying high. It is one of two (out of 10) MT programs that we haven't had a chance to visit and the ONLY program where we don't know any students. She auditioned at the Unifieds in NYC. Needless to say, she's very excited and would appreciate feedback from current PSU-ers. My D also was accepted back in November for Emerson EA for MT. WE feel doubly blessed, very grateful, a little giddy and quite relieved. She is still waiting on a few more and then it is decision time. It will be a difficult choice to make.
Congratulations to all those who have already heard good news and heartfelt best wishes to all those still waiting to hear!!!

Hi freelance!! Congrats to your d (I know who ;) My d has a good friend who goes to PSU and loves it! If you want me to get you his email, just write me and I'll give it to you.

Mtfan,

Dancersmom was kind enough last year to make up that list for the MT Class of '08. You might want to wait a bit until more people have posted as it will need redoing several times before the last acceptances are mailed.

We had one list with all (most of) the MT schools matched to the people who had been accepted there. It was generously revised several times by Dancersmom. We also had a THREAD where people indicated their FINAL choices once they were made (unlike this College Acceptance thread where people share their acceptance stories, not where they have decided to go.)

I would like to suggest, without meaning to be a downer, that if those folks who have been accepted could also mention the places they have NOT been accepted, it might help those still waiting, with no acceptances yet, understand that almost no one gets in everywhere and give them more hope that even after 1 or 2 (or several) rejections, applicants (on this board at least) almost always seem to end up somewhere with a happy ending.

Fingers still crossed for you all and congrats to those who have gotten good news already!

Rard's mom,

It did not say where on the wait list I was (I prob will call them this week), but that it was a wait list of 10 and "in the event that an accepted student declines their seat, a student from the waiting list will move into that spot. The deadline for the initial group of students is March 21". So to those who got in and definately aren't going PLEASE CALL THEM ASAP. It also explains that I could enter as a BA in theater and re-audition for the MT in my freshman year, or audition for the BFA Acting.

Freelance,
Congrats on your D's acceptance at PSU! I know Susan felt the same way(about not knowing anyone) when she and her D came to the audition at PSU a few weeks ago and we had a great visit. Let us know when you plan on heading there and I'm sure my D as well as Monkey's would be happy to answer questions and help you out.

Rard's mom--Doctorjohn has implied that many waitlists in MT are not ranked, explaining that a blonde soprano will be replaced by a blonde soprano, etc. That makes sense since the schools are casting their future shows when they accept students into their programs. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

Congrats everyone!!!

I posted a more in depth post on part 39, but for those only reading here....
D got two letters today. Rejected from CCM and BW. Although we haven't gotten the Hartt letter yet, it is the only school we have not visited, and I think she is hoping for acceptance there. But if not, the two schools she is already accepted to were two of the three she felt were the best match for her. (And the scholarships have been the best, too!) I truly believe this process works!!!

Congratulations to all who have posted their acceptances. Mama02girlz--that's great about the scholarships, too. This is so exciting, and my D is just a junior!

I know Doctorjohn said that is what they do at his particular school ( a blond soprano being on a wait list for a blond soprano who was accepted), but I am wondering if that is how other schools work....

Does anyone have expereince with wait lists? Do people actually get in?

Thanks

freelance,
I second Bdwaymom's sentiments regarding PSU. Just contact me if you want info or your daughter wants to correspond with a current student. Isn't it great to have a few under your belt?

Rard's mom...yes, schools may go to their waitlists. Examples that I know of...

Carnegie Mellon, unlike the other MT programs, does not accept "extra" kids to yield their final number of slots (in contrast to most programs like PSU who took 22 to yield 16, for example). They said they would take ten to yield ten but then they have a short waitlist they go to in order to fill any slots that kids do not take up the offer on. My D's friend who is a freshman in the program got in last year off the waitlist on May 6.

Another example...yesterday, at Boston Conservatory, my D knows one girl who happens to be a senior and coincidentally was the student rep in the information session by the admissions director. She told us she had gotten off the waitlist at BOCO though had gotten into Ithaca. Not sure the timing of her specifics.

Also, at UMich's presentation by the director of the program, he mentioned taking 12 boys to yield 10 and 12 girls to yield 10 girls and if need be, then they go to a short waitlist.

So, from those three examples, it seems that even IF a school takes beyond the number of slots, they STILL MIGHT utilize a waitlist should the need arise. This does not mean they ALL do this. But Dr. John has also mentioned a waitlist at his school, Otterbein. Many of these programs are small and do not want to risk yielding more kids than they optimumly (sp?) desire for class size. That would be the reason to admit the number of students that historically will yield the right size conservatively and then go to a waitlist after that.

Susan

Posted this in Part 39, but thought I might as well post in here as well.

Accepted to Wagner, Buffalo, and Oklahoma City University. Waitlisted at Baldwin-Wallace. Still waiting to hear from 5 schools.

OCU is a great school .I am waiting to hear for dance performance, but I am concerned because it is hugely conservatives!!!FYI-It's degree is a BA in Theater Arts(triple threat program)or a BM in Musical theater.gtg I am in school (oops)

I'd be going for their BM Musical Theater program. They have a great dance program, I have a friend in it now. The location is an issue for me, being a huge liberal I can't quite picture myself in Oklahoma, but I'm going to visit with an open mind and see what I think.

Keep the good news coming! This is so exciting! Just for interest, can you all help me on the %acceptances for each of the major MT schools? So far from what I can gather, they only accept 10 total (gulp!) for CM; 16-22 total for PSU; 20-24 for UMich; and 60-80 for NYU. ALso, about how many audition from each school for musical theater? We didn't visit ANY schools, so I have no idea! Thx to anyone who can fill in missing info!

I believe that UMich receives upwards of 700 applications and after evaluation of academic stats offers auditions to between 300-400 students.

rossji, it was posted by mtheatremom a few months ago that approximately 3000 kids audition for Tisch drama. Between 1400-1700 of those specify CAP21 as their first choice studio. They generally enroll about 60 kids each year in CAP21. She was told this at an information session at Tisch last fall. These numbers were similar to the ones two years ago when my D auditioned, and also last year when she started at Tisch as a freshman.
