I am currently researching and reading up about potential colleges I may apply to at the end of this year, however, I came across an Admission deadline where the deadline was halfway through the year.
My question is, why are some college deadlines at the end/start of a year, while some are halfway through the year? How do I manage to apply to two different colleges where one has a deadline for December 1st, and the other for June 28th, for example?
A majority of colleges (and all of the competitive ones, I think) have an early application deadline in the October-December range and then a regular application deadline somewhere in the January-March range. Other schools have rolling admissions (apply whenever) or much, much later deadlines.
If you’re doing your research now (great idea, and good for you for being proactive), you should have a pretty good idea of your match, reach, and safety preferences by this summer. I’m a little confused by your question, because there’s nothing to stop you from applying earlier than the deadline, so the way you “manage to apply” to various colleges when the time comes is to either apply in the order in which deadlines occur, or – if you kind of want to do them all in one go – work toward the earliest deadline and do them all.
My kids were always very busy with activities in the fall, so both of them (with a little encouragement from us, of course) aimed to finish their college applications before classes began in their senior year(s). This had the dual benefits of 1) getting it all out of the way and 2) upping their admission/scholarship chances, as both decided on schools where scholarship consideration is only given to early applicants. I can literally think of no downside to applying early. (I mean non-binding early application, by the way. ED – which is binding – is another matter entirely.) Good luck!
Okay, thank you very much! I just wasn’t entirely sure if two very far a prt deadlines were for two different semesters!
@thomasadamson33 Also, be careful with some deadlines - for example, a college might have an application deadline of December 1st but the same college might only consider you for any scholarships, merit aid or financial aid if you actually apply by November 1st. So it’s important to review the requirements and deadlines for each college and usually the sooner you get your application in, the better!
