College Admission Essay question

Hi people,

For my college admission essay, I have to write about the experiences that shaped me and prepared me to be a student for the college that I'm applying to. So my question is if can I write an essay using personal pronouns/informal writing with words like I, me and my? Since, in my essay I'm telling a story, I find it very hard to not use personal pronouns. I'm just wondering if that's a big no-no, or if it's okay as long as the grammar and writing style is decent.

Thanks!

College essays including the main essay transcend the traditional forms of essay writing, because it should tell others who YOU are. If using those pronouns maximize the effect of portraying yourself, you should use it without any doubt.

Thanks a lot for your help! I feel a lot better now knowing that I can use those pronouns to describe my personal story :)!

Use personal pronouns. It would be awkward to tell a story about yourself without them.
