College admission factors

are there any colleges that calculate 9th or 12th grade grades into the gpa? >< such an odd question but yea lol =(

you serious?

i'm pretty sure none do lol

your pretty sure no colleges look at ninth grade?

Rolling schools that process your app before your senior grades are sent will not see your grades, but will see the classes you take.

Even if a college says they do not look at freshman year, the grades you got are on your transcript where an adcom can see them, and Cs and Ds will not be looked on too favorably, especially when you are going to be a freshman again. All not looking at freshman year grades means is for top school admissions "one or two Bs freshman year, dont sweat". For next tier schools it means "one C or two freshman year, dont sweat". For community college it means "failed a class, dont sweat. we have to accept you". Also, lots of colleges look at your freshman year grades, but they are weighted the least with junior year weighted the most. Also, class rank is affected by freshman year grades (and some middle school courses) so if you have all As sophmore and junior year but are ranked outside the top 15% due to poor freshman year grades it will still hurt in admissions to top schools.

In addition to looking at your first quarter (ED/A / rolling schools) or first semester (RD) senior year grades, ALL colleges will look at your final senior year grades after admitting you. If you do poorly, they reserve the right to do one of any number of things:
--still admit you, but on academic probation (expecting you to keep a certain GPA to not get kicked out)
--still admit you, but require you to take summer classes
--reject you

To specifically answer the question, which I may not have, Lots of schools use freshman and senior (1st semester) grades to calculate GPA. Upward trend works its way in if you did not do so good freshman year and did exceptioal the other 3 years. Classes like gym and other nonacademics are not even looked at for GPA (but an F in gym will draw some questions).

Depends on the school I would think (abt freshman yr grades). As far as senior year, don't slack because schools can revoke admission. If you've been a straight A student and all of a sudden your highest grade is a C-, thats not going to look very good.

Actually, Stanford and a handful of other schools only consider 10th-12th. That being said, MOST other schools look at all four years of HS.

is it true that they dont look at gym classes? I had two C's in gym , and b/c of that im at the bottom of the top 10 % (while kids with far less rigorous schedules and lower grades in academic classes are above me)

They tend to look at academic classes, rather than gym...they may notice the C, but then they'll look to see what it was in. You'll be fine.
