I have a question: what if one does not get admitted into a college and applies there the following year, are his/her chances affected? Have any international students been admitted in their 2nd year of applications? Please do help, it will be much appreciated :).

If you don’t get accepted to school A the 1st try, what changes make you more attractive to the school the next year?

I would suggest not to leave a gap. Apply to many schools. If you don’t get accepted to your dream school, go to the next one on your list. Apply to transfer after a year or two.

If you use your gap year in a productive way, I’d say you have a chance; your previous application won’t affect your current one.

^^^The caveat to not taking a gap year is that if you require financial assistance and you’ve done a year of school elsewhere, you won’t be able to get entering freshman scholarships/your application might be denied by schools that are need-aware for transfers.
