College Admissions Advice/Question

I'm a rising senior, and I wanted some advice on college admissions and what schools to apply to.
I go to a competitive suburban public school, that does not do any weighting or inflation whatsoever for grades. My GPA for my first two years of high school was a 95.0.
My Junior Year Grades are as follows:
Spanish 11 Honors-90
Principles of Marketing-97
AP Biology-93
Pre-calc Honors-91 :(
AP Lang&Comp-96
AP US History-95
AP Economics-91
Wind Ensemble/Gym-96/93
-Here are some extra stats
-PSAT-229
-January SAT CR/M/W: 700/770/750
-SAT II (may retake): Math II/Bio/US: 760/730/730
-Extra notes: I took my SAT again in June, and I'm hoping for better scores. My extracurriculars are pretty strong, I've been very involved in several clubs and am captain of my varsity tennis team.

My question is if, on an academic basis, my stats are competitive enough for the ivys and other top schools? And I wanted suggestions on what schools would be good matches for someone with my stats? Thanks.

Keep in mind that the top fifteen or so colleges in the country are reaches for everyone; you just don’t know whether they are going to want what you have this year. That doesn’t mean you should not apply, it just means that thousands of kids with your numbers apply each year. Your ECs are what will make you stand out at the very top schools.

Having said that, your numbers are wonderful. You will most likely be a National Merit Finalist (unless you don’t complete the application). You might want to look at some schools that offer full tuition or other really nice scholarships for NMFs. Do a search on here for it; there is a great list. Also keep in mind that for top students, schools just below the top 25 or so also offer some nice $$$.

You need to decide whether you want to attend a large university or an LAC or something in between and decide whether you want to go to school in the city or somewhere else.

If you want more specific suggestions, you might note what you think you might want to study. Also, at an information session for William and Mary, the question was asked about re-taking SATs and how high was high enough. The response was that 700 was high enough. So unless you just wnat to see whether you can get an 800 in a section, you may want to spend your Saturdays doing other things.

thank you MD Mom for your advice. I definitely understand that the top 15 schools are reaches for even the best applicants, I just wanted to see if my stats were on par with other kids that were applying. Thanks for telling me about that NMF scholarship search, I’ll definitely look into that.

Your lookin’ pretty solid! A lot of schools out there would love to have you.
