Hi guys,
I was recently denied admission to a school that I really wanted to attend and I’m kind of in a rut I was wondering if I could get some advice as to which schools to add to my list. I’m looking for a small liberal arts college in the northeast (although I wouldn’t be opposed to looking somewhere else). I would be willing to apply EDII because financial aid is not that important. My GPA is quite low, around a 3.3 and my SAT is a 1930. I am a pretty average student, however, I do have some hooks, I’m multiracial and I am very passionate about social justice. I’m looking for a pretty liberal college as well.
Thanks for any responses!
There have been several threads on topics like this lately that you might find helpful. Here’s a good one:

I don’t want to overwhelm you, but there are lots of great schools that would meet your criteria and would be happy to have someone with your academic qualifications, particularly if you’re willing to travel outside of the northeast. Some of them might even give you merit money if the M+CR part of your SAT total is pretty strong. Here’s a few that are frequently mentioned:
Northeast/East:
Skidmore, Bennington, Sarah Lawrence, Bard, Goucher
Midwest/South:
Knox, Beloit, Earlham
Pacific Northwest:
Willamette, Lewis & Clark, U. of Puget Sound
If you’re looking for schools that are a little reachier, you might want to check out Oberlin, Grinnell and Whitman as well. Your stats are a bit low for them, but if you fall into their definition of a URM, that might make up the shortfall.
And check out the Colleges that Change Lives website – ctcl.org. It’s chock-a-block full of cool LACs that are a good match for your stats and a good many of them are a good match for your social leanings as well. Many of the names listed above are on their list.
Actually those are probably reachy enough. I did a quick check of two schools and the GPA is still in the bottom 25%.
