I have 2 D’s- one is a quiet leader who leads by example and wants to help others succeed. She is an introvert and the nicest person I know. I think she was able to demonstrate her leadership on her college apps. I think she might have written one of her supplements on how she is a behind-the-scenes leader. Her common app essay was about how she is the mom in her friend group and all the ways she looks out for them.
My other D is an extrovert and has more typical leadership roles-varsity captain, in charge of different events and activities at school and was just elected school president for next year. She doesn’t do anything just for college apps. In fact, she hates the entire college process. She does the activities she wants and takes the classes she wants for herself and not to get into a better college. She and I have butted heads over some of this but I have to respect her beliefs.
I wouldn’t say one is any more or any less of a leader than the other. Just different. Different types of leaders with different personalities.
