college admissions horror stories

Can anyone satisfy me with some admissions horror stories? I feel really bored right now. Any missed deadlines, total/complete rejections, "explosions", rescissions, etc..?

Know a guy who got all his decisions back except one – a top school he really, really wanted. He waited. And waited. Finally, he called and asked what was up. He’d done everything right as far as getting confirmations and receipts that all this material had been received. Then, at this juncture, two weeks after decisions had been announced, the college tells him that somehow, someway, all his app material had gotten lost. All they had on him was an empty folder and no decision. When he showed them all the receipts and confirmations, they were quite embarrassed and asked him to quick fax everything over again and they’d give him a decision immediately (luckily he had copies of everything).

Well, he got in. He went on to have a stellar career there, but it was always in the back of his mind that the only reason they accepted him was out of embarrassment and fear of a lawsuit.

haha i like that one.

they forgot to send me an acceptance letter for one of my colleges. they were suppose to notify me at the end of march, I called them a few times and they “sent” out multiple letters regarding their decision because they couldn’t tell me if i got in or not through the phone. I never received their mail and I didn’t get my response until mid-may, 2 weeks after the necessary deposit date to keep your spot in that college. I didn’t know I got in the university until it was too late. I didn’t want to go after getting responses from my other colleges but it would have been nice to be told that I was accepted before the deposit deadline

i chose tufts over duke

I had a similar experience, commentcomment. I applied to a school that accepted people on a rolling bases, and I applied pretty early. I was hoping to get accepted, just so that I knew I’d at least have somewhere to go, but I never heard back from them. I kinda forgot about it, but about a month later I got a call asking why I hadn’t applied for housing. It was a pretty awkward conversation, because my first response was “Apply for housing? But you guys rejected me, didn’t you?”. Turns out they just forgot to send the acceptance letter… it was still in a box with a couple others in their office.

^Did they let you attend?
