COLLEGE ADMISSIONS INTO Miami University's Farmer school of business

Hey everyone, so I was accepted in to Miami U I was also accepted into their school of business. I became confused when I saw most people were not accepted into the school of business until their second year at the school. I called my admissions officer and they confirmed I was accepted into both schools so I was wondering what everyone else is talking about on this site when they claim that they couldn't be accepted until sophomore year. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Some people with the credentials FSB looks for in their students are admitted as freshmen. Those who say they can’t enter FSB until their sophomore year must wait because they weren’t admitted their first year and must take business pre reqs courses so they can be admitted.
Don’t worry, it’s a great accomplishment being admitted into FSB as a first year CONGRATS!!!

Farmer School of Business break out session today at the Make It Miami event…here are the numbers. Approximately 22,500 applied for Fall 2013, 5900 applied to Farmer, 800 direct admits. That’s a 13-14% acceptance rate for direct admits, so take it and run. Congratulations.

Hmm - I got direct admit to Farmers but basically no financial aid. I wish they correlated!
(Other schools gave quite a bit, so I know I do qualify for more.)

My S applied Undeclared and was accepted, but now has decided to major in business. He must take Econ & Calc along with usual Freshman schedule and have a 3.3 gpa to get into Farmers Sophmore year. Does anyone have an idea of how doable this is? On one hand it would give him an incentive to do well, but on the other it puts a lot of pressure on him . . . Any thoughts?

FSB has gotten MUCH more selective since my older son applied two years ago. Both Miami as a whole and FSB are raising the bar, so to speak. Second son also received direct admit but is most likely going elsewhere rather than following in his brother’s footsteps.

ELY - Any chance your son took AP Econ? If so, FSB will accept credit for that. I would also have him (you) contact his admissions rep to see if there’s anything you can do to get him into FSB before he starts. I think taking both Econ & Calc freshman year is doable but I think you know best what type of grades he currently receives. Most direct admits also are required to take Calc freshman year - unless they place out of it with AP credits. Econ would be the only extra class. Remember, they’re each one semester classes so you might want to take one in the fall and one in the spring.
