Emory reports admissions results, but it’s a bit hard to figure out because Emory combines results for Oxford College and Emory College.

Office of Admissions Releases Results for Class of 2020

Last week, around 4,000 soon-to-be freshmen received acceptance letters inviting them to join the Emory College Class of 2020. Combined with the prior-released early decision acceptances, 4,927 total students have been accepted to Emory College and 3,282 to Oxford College.

Assistant Vice Provost for Undergraduate Enrollment and Dean of Admission John Latting noted that, this year, the volume of applications for Emory College decreased by about three percent from last year’s record-breaking 20,519. However, this admissions cycle still marks Emory’s second-highest year for applications, with 19,924 students vying for acceptance to Emory College.

“While the volume of applications was down a bit, the number of really incredibly strong students who applied to Emory was up significantly,” Latting said. “For example, the number of students we regard as being really elite prospects, with superb academic credentials in every respect, was up 19 percent this year.”

He believes that the released data about certain academic measures reflect the strong class of admitted students this year. These measures include a mean unweighted GPA of 3.81, a mean SAT composite score of 2135 and a mean ACT score of 32 — all higher than last year’s admitted student statistics.

Latting was also struck by the diversity that characterized the accepted class of 2020, including students from around the world and a variety of backgrounds. Out of 4,344 international applicants, Emory accepted 673. Admitted students come from almost 80 different countries by citizenship and, within the U.S., 48 different states. Additionally, admitted students from India outnumber those from China for the first time in history.

Based on last year’s numbers, Latting anticipates that the yield of admitted students who ultimately enroll will be roughly 28 percent of those offered admission, on par with the 2015 application cycle.

I’m going to take a stab at Emory, but it’s going to be rough because we don’t know any of the Emory ED2 data. But based on additional information provided in other sources that appeared earlier, Emory states that they had 1371 ED1 applications here: http://blog.emoryadmission.com/2015/12/ed1notifications2015/

Harvey Mudd, Scripps Admission Rates Drop

Acceptance rates for the class of 2020 at both Scripps College and Harvey Mudd College decreased with respect to last year. Scripps’ overall 2016 acceptance rate was close to 25 percent, compared to a 26.3 percent acceptance rate in 2015. The Scripps Admissions Office also reported a 14 percent rise in applications for this year. Harvey Mudd College’s overall acceptance rate for this year was 11.9 percent, compared to 12.4 percent last year.

The increased competitiveness was also evident in early decision acceptance rates, which fell from 17.7 percent last year to 16.6 percent this year for Harvey Mudd. Scripps had 236 early decision applicants, out of which 113 have enrolled for the upcoming year.

International students continue to form a considerable portion of the student body, although their acceptance rates fell as well. At Harvey Mudd, the percentage of admitted international students dropped by 1.6 percent from last year. The international incoming first-years represent 19 different nationalities, but the majority of international students are from China, India and Singapore. Scripps had a 12.3 percent acceptance rate for international students, who will come from many countries, including India, China, Canada, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, and South Korea.

Admissions Accepts 13.7 Percent to Class of 2020

Amherst admitted 1,149 of the 8,397 applicants this year for an acceptance rate of 13.7 percent, according to the office of admission. The applicant pool, which includes regular decision, early decision and Questbridge Match candidates, was smaller than last year’s record-breaking pool of 8,566.

The admissions office predicts that 40 percent of admittees will enroll at Amherst. This would allow the admission office to admit around 20 students from the waitlist to meet the total enrollment target of 472 students for the class.

Thirty-eight percent of admitted students to the class of 2020 had applied via early decision, up from 36 percent for the class of 2019. Regular decision students have until May 1 to commit.

According to dean of admission and financial aid Katie Fretwell, the incoming class is expected to be highly diverse once again, with 54 percent identifying as American students of color. The college admitted six students who identified as Native American and 33 who identified as multi-racial with Native heritage.

Eight percent of students are children of Amherst alumni. Sixty-nine percent intend to apply for financial aid, and nine percent applied via Questbridge Match, a program designed to match students from low-income families to 37 selective partner colleges and universities, including Amherst.
