College Admissions Statistics Class of 2020: Early Decision & Early Action Acceptance Rates

@suzyQ7 – I am with you on this! Also there is a factor for consideration that is the multiple test takers vs high score 1 and done kids. And does it matter if the student did well on the exam as a sophomore or early junior yr vs. a very late test taker with a high score? No idea. Good AP scores can’t hurt - not sure how much they really help - and we know the credit policies vary wildly. Course rigor & grades and accomplishments outside the classroom likely count a huge amount. Holistic right???

The profile of the Yale Class of 2020 has been published: http://admissions.yale.edu/sites/default/files/files/class_profile_2020_8-17.pdf

1,373 enrolled freshmen, 36 others admitted and postponing enrollment. 1,972 were originally admitted; this doesn’t say how many additional applicants, if any, were admitted from the waitlist. A handful on CC claim to have been, but I would guess there weren’t many given the unusually high number of SCEA admits this year, so it looks like about a 71% yield.

And some stats for the Harvard Class of 2020 have been published here: https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/admissions-statistics

2,106 admitted (including 75 from the waiting list); 1,667 matriculated → 79.2% yield.

@DeepBlue86 Are the 36 others who postponed enrollment included in the 1972 admitted? It is said that Yale, costarring to every other ivy +Stanford, MIT has historically subtracted the # of admits postponing admission which results in an inflated yield rate.

I don’t know the answer to that, @Penn95. If you don’t include them this year, though, it would seem to me that you’d logically have to include in this year’s numbers the people accepted last year who took a gap year, and include this year’s crop next year. Given that we also don’t know how many were admitted from the wait list (and how many of those accepted their offers), I don’t think we have enough information to calculate yield precisely.

Anyone have stats for Carnegie Mellon CIT College of Engineering ED vs. RD? Overall rate seems to be about 13% but I would what the difference is - is ED very important or not. DS is very interested but is rather uncomfortable with ED. thanks

spayurpets: thanks for keeping this thread updated. I’m sure it serves as a tremendous resource for students and parents alike. Can you explain (or restate if I missed it) why certain schools, specifically Boston College, Emory, UCLA, University of Michigan, USC, and the University of Texas were excluded from certain ranking lists? I know that several of these schools, including USC, do post their acceptance statistics every spring so I don’t believe that it is a matter of disclosure. Thanks.

Addendum: I see that your post on August 10 ranks “Top 25” schools in terms of number of applications, acceptance rates, yields, etc. However, USC, Emory and UCLA are all ranked in USNWR’s top 25 so I wouldn’t think that would be the basis for excluding these schools from that post.
