There’s some unconfirmed sources that say UChicago accepted only 1160ish of 13,000 (9%) of its early applicants
1160 ED doesn’t leave much room for a class size of 1740
@bronze2 Yeah it doesn’t, but it’s similar to what happened last year with 75-80% of the class being filled with early applicants.
Seems like RD is going to be ugly at a lot of compeltive admissions schools.
@panth33m, it already is.
Also, UChicago has both ED and EA. I believe the acceptance rate through ED is much higher than through EA. Not all the EA admits will accept either, so there would be a few more slots in RD. Though UChicago also offers deferred admission to the next year, which takes up a few more slots.
Anything on Boston University?
MIT just released RD results. http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/mit-regular-action-decisions-now-available-online5
1,464/21,708 = 6.7% for the entire applicant pool. Just 800 places offered in RD after 664/9,557 accepted during EA.
Last year was 1,438/20,247.
With colleges about to boast of their record applicant pool and record low acceptance rate, it is sobering to think that only 35 years ago, Harvard had an acceptance rate of 17%. And in the 1940s, it was 90% in some years. Here is a well-researched post on Quora with links to the historical record of Harvard admissions.
https://www.quora.com/What-was-the-acceptance-rate-at-Harvard-+30-years-ago
Last year, there were 38 schools with acceptance rates below 20%. Following the limited data so far concerning the increase in applications for the class of 2022, we will now see around 50 schools with acceptance rates below 20%.

JHU also released the class of 2022 numbers: https://hub.jhu.edu/2018/03/15/hopkins-class-of-2022-regular-decision/
About 10% fewer offers from a pool with 10% more applicants compared to last year.
2,894/29,128 compared to 3,133/26,578
Pomona: https://www.pomona.edu/news/2018/03/16-introducing-pomona-college-class-2022
Acceptance rate now below 7% with 713/10,245 compared to 756/9,045 for the 2021 class (common data set figures).
Harvey Mudd: https://www.hmc.edu/admission/2018/03/16/today-is-the-day-3/
Acceptance rate 14.5% of 4101 applicants.
Though, @bronze2, colleges didn’t market nearly as heavily or play as many games with the acceptance rate (and China, etc. didn’t send in hardly any apps) 35 years ago.

These RD stats are terrifying…
all of these statistics are horrifying… what a rough year for applicants.
Especially since at this point a lot of what we are calling RD stats are actually blended ED+RD (e.g. Pomona 6.9%). If you back out the ED admits they’re even lower.
