I thought it was a good article. It reminded me so much this site.

A HIGH school senior was fighting back tears in her guidance counselor’s office. Despite her 92 average, the girl had been rejected by her top three college choices. Another senior, already clad in a new Northwestern T-shirt, interrupted to give his counselor a thumbs-up. He was in.

How could she be surpised with a 92 average? Having that puts you at like the bottom 10% of CC, lol

“the most anxious, sleep-deprived, steeped-in-stress, judged, tested, poorly nourished generation.”

lol!

fandangoy- I thought the same thing! I was like, 92...***? I'm assuming her tops were big reaches then.

Fandangoya, I had the same reaction when I read that. My face did a cringey-thing.

So what's a 92 on the 4.0 scale?

only idiots have 92 averages

paul- That's not true. Unless you were joking you've been spending way too much time on CC.

And to everyone else- Yes that is low but they didn't tell you the person's course load. Maybe it was all AP's. Who knows? I started this thread to talk about the article in general, not about one line in it.

I loved this, its true -

“Most teenagers have no passions at all, except sex.”

im hoping for the time when the new york times actually publishes a positive outlook on colleges; you know, a profile of some kid who despite, aginst the odds, makes it with a stellar super mind-blowing essay or something unique. such a description of anxiety can only be self-prophesizing in a way... write about anxiety.. fuels the anxiety.. blah blah blah

The pressure is literally making children sick, Ms. Jones said, citing increases in everything from eating disorders to depression. Her call to arms: reel in the pressure and start changing the culture. Parents need to back off. Children need downtime. High schools need to lower the pressure. Colleges need to be straight with teenagers.

Amen to that. I did the college apps race only three years ago, and I thought that was bad - not only has the game changed considerably, it's totally crazy. Like everyone has seriously lost their minds.
