college admissions?

hey, so I've heard the rumor that a few college admissions officers actually try to look u up, like on this forum?? How do they even track you down just by looking at a forum??? Or is it just a rumor? They can't possible figure out who I am in real life???!!!

If they can waitlist a kid with a perfect GPA, and they have, then they can do anything.

Anything.

Lol..tell me then, how can they track you on the internet?

^ Oh it's possible. I've seen quite a few applications that ask you to provide your IM sn. A lot of people use this same screen name for many services so they have an Internet presence under this alias and not their real name, for example you can find lots about technol21 in various locations, but not so much about [my name]. Of course, it also becomes more difficult if people use different names for different sites.

Then again, I highly doubt that colleges would even bother snooping around the Internet looking for profiles/postings to help with admissions. Look at the similar thread about colleges snooping around on Facebook related responses.

They can try reading my 1400 posts here... or they can get back to reading their 20,000 applications. Their choice.

^^ good thing I use different sn names. sigh of relief

Wow, I think I'd just leave the screenname section blank. Plus I use all different ones. I try to do a good job of covering my tracks, not that it always works well.

You can always say you don't have internet and write, "what is a IM sn?!?!" on the application where they ask you to provide one.

^
LOL Or make your IM SN N/A, NA, or none (if it's allowed)

Make one up. I personally have different handles for everything. I don\'t like being tracked by Google nubz.

My college applications asked for my email address, and many sites allow you to search users by email, so that could be a likely way to do it. Seems a little easier than searching using an IM username. ;P

I think it most cases, it's really doubtful they would search up users when they have so many applications to sift trough. Maybe in their free time, though.

ah why are u guys worrying about this stuff anyways....that's "Pathetique^"

^If that's what Beethoven meant, sure. ;P

^Hahahahaha

College applications ask for screen names?

I'll just set up new screen names and new email accounts.

I'll probably create an alternate e-mail address for applications then, considering I use the same name for everything (and I mean everything)

I don't have anything incriminating, and my Facebook/Myspace are private.

Profile picture is nothing more than a picture of my face.

I don't think I have to worry about screen names.

I think it's kind of funny that so many people are like "omg what will i do if they find me out!!!" and nobody's like, "hmm, maybe I should stop acting like such an asshat."

The only place you have to worry is if you join one of those legalistic Bible colleges that don't allow boys and girls to talk to each other, and also have pink and blue sidewalks.

They check myspaces and will expel you if they see drinking, homosexuality, or dating another student in the school.

Dude, chill. Nothing's gonna happen to you.

and btw
