Now I know that Yale University is going to be more recognized than Podunk U., but does the FBI care exactly what college you attended for undergrad?

I'm a HS junior considering majoring in Psych and Arabic/Russian, with a CJ or CS minor. It's hard to find reliable undergrad rankings for undergrad programs, so what would be the difference between say...a state school and a smaller, more specialized, out of the way college?

I've heard the FBI doesn't really care what you major in (even though their site says in some cases it sets you in certain qualification areas when applying), so does your undergrad college matter, especially if you plan to go to grad school and/or get training/experience?

Sorry that was a bit long :) Thanks

Law enforcement agencies don’t care what college you went to. Just because your intelligent doesn’t mean you can handle the dangers of police officer. It’s a whole different ball game.

They definitely don’t care. When you are filling out the app for the FBI, they don’t select you based off your college, they select you based off your qualifications (whether you fulfill them) and your resume (typically law enforcement/fed. government agencies use searchable “key terms” that match up with what candidate they are looking for).

the FBI does a lot of different things… you should consider what job you actually want there, and you might be able to expand your search to other places as well.

To be competitive for the FBI you will want to have a graduate degree in:
-law (JD)
-computer science
-accounting/MBA

You will need work experience as well and some of the more successful agents will probably have this as prior work experience:
-military (service as a commissioned officer is preferable. extensive experience in combat arms branches/special operations may allow you to apply for the FBI’s HRT)
-previous law enforcement experience

Language skills are a plus as well:
-Arabic
-Mandarin

The FBI is probably not something you will get into right out of college as your first job. Employment as a Special Agent will most likely require you to relocate many times in your career if you have any desire of career progression.

Note that while federal alphabet-soup agencies may seem prestigious, you may do better financially with state or municipal agencies (in some cases, a lot better financially).

Can an international student (from India) join FBI after graduation?

I can’t even imagine how long your investigation for a TS/SCI clearance will be provided you are a US Citizen.
In other words, don’t count on it.

Is it possible to take FBI training and join Indian Police Service?
Obviously after appropriate permission from FBI chiefs.

Is it possible?

Also, not being a US citizen.

The FBI gives informational/training sessions to agencies worldwide, so I don’t see why not. Just be aware it won’t exactly be the Academy…

To become an FBI Special Agent you must be a U.S. citizen or a citizen of the Northern Mariana Islands. You must be at least 23 years of age, but younger than 37 upon your appointment as a Special Agent. Age waivers may be granted to preference eligible veterans who have surpassed their 37th birthday. You must possess a four-year degree from a college or university accredited by one of the regional or national institutional associations recognized by the United States Secretary of Education. You must have at least three years of professional work experience. You must also possess a valid driver’s license and be completely available for assignment anywhere in the FBI’s jurisdiction.

All applicants for the Special Agent position must first qualify under one of five Special Agent Entry Programs. These programs include:

Accounting
Computer Science/Information Technology
Language
Law
Diversified

The FBI does recruit at some colleges - that would be a benefit to attending certain colleges if that is the career you want.

It’s certainly won’t be the FBI Academy.
Sure. But the FBI recruits for many positions. I would bet money on the fact that they are not going to undergraduate colleges recruiting for a Special Agent position. No college can provide students with the work experience that is required to successfully get through the hiring criteria of the FBI for Special Agents.

Thank you for the great responses.

The recruiting mentioned above at certain colleges is actually kinda like a college fair, only for the FBI. They visit school across the country. You do not have to go to that school to attend, I believe (but there is a chance I’m wrong)…The positions they try to fill here are support only, not special agent positions. These professional support positions and the “tour” are described better at [FBI College](http://www.fbijobs.gov/college/positions.asp)

I believe this is what you were talking about, memphismom…
