College App Season is Over: What are my chances at these schools?

Hi! I’m currently a senior who has finished the stressful process and is currently waiting for decisions to come out (even more stressful). I have a big fear that I will not get into any of the colleges I applied for and that all my hard work will go to waste.

Objective:

ACT (breakdown): 28C (29E, 26M, 29R, 26S)
*I know, it is very low for Northeastern
Unweighted GPA: 93 UW, 101 W
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): N/A
AP (place score in parenthesis): AP World (2), APUSH (4), AP English (2), AP Stats, AP Gov, AP Bio
(I know my AP scores are bad, I’m only going to report the APUSH score)
Senior Year Course Load: Calculus Honors, AP Stats, AP Bio, AP Gov, Syracuse English
*I took college accounting my junior year, got an A+ and received 6 credits for it

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):
Red Cross (secretary 10-11, Vice 12)
Key Club
Writer for school newspaper
Mathletes
Environmental
National Honor Society
Math Honor Society
English Honor Society
Science Honor Society
History Scholar Honor Society

Common App Essay: I thought it was somewhat creative. I wrote about something pretty generic but I put a special twist on it. I give it a 7-8/10.
Supplements: Worked really hard on them! Think the supplement I wrote for NEU was the best thing I’ve ever written.

Teacher Recommendation: Got one from my APUSH teacher who apparently writes really good ones. I was her intern junior year! Also asked my math teacher who loves me. I really pushed him to make my recommendation good and not generic. So like 7/10?
Counselor Rec: Probably really generic. She doesn’t really know me. (5/10)

Awards/Honors (not impressive):
Semi Finalist for Stony Brook Japan Essay Competition
Published original poem in a book

Other:
Intended Major: Journalism (thinking about doubling major in accounting or something in the business field)
State (if domestic applicant): New York
School Type: Public school, not very competitive
Ethnicity: Asian! (Chinese)
Gender: Female

Schools I applied to:
Stony Brook (accepted!)
Binghamton
Baruch (CUNY)
Queens (CUNY)
Hunter (CUNY)
*For all the CUNY schools, I applied to the Macaulay Program. I know I won’t get into that, I’m just hoping I get into the honors program!
NYU (going for journalism)
Boston University (going for journalism)
Northeastern (going for journalism)

Northeastern is my top school. I know my ACT score is low but I’m hoping my supplement gets me in. I poured my heart and soul into it and I think it is one of the best things I’ve ever written.

So, what do you think my chances are at these schools?

bump

You could get a better ACT (it’s good but you can always improve it not that I did any better (: ) score but your EC’s and GPA compensate for that. I’d say you have a good shot at each, my guess is you’ll get accepted to the majority of those that you appleid to.

The ACT score will hurt you at some of the more competitive schools, but won’t really for the rest, so I wouldn’t stress about it. A weakness would be a lack of sat subject scores. Here are my predictions for ya:

Stony Brook (congrats  )
Binghamton (accept)
Baruch (CUNY) (reject)
Queens (CUNY) (accept)
Hunter (CUNY) (accept)
NYU (reject)
Boston University (waitlist/reject)
Northeastern (reject) (I don’t know the quality of your supplements, which seem to be a game changer to you, so probably best to ignore this one)

You have an obvious passion for writing and journalism, and as long as the rest of your application (your essays, EC’s, supplements) all support that, and prove your desire to continue your education in them, your chances are significantly better. No one here knows what the rest of your application looks like, so we definitely aren’t the best judges. My chances here are just going purely off what you’ve said!

You don’t have to bump this thread some many times. Some users have already given some great feedback.

Just got rejected from Northeastern (lmao), do I have a chance at Boston University? I applied to their College of Communications school for journalism!
